WotW - A Night to Remember [open]
« Thread Started on May 7, 2008, 9:24am »

*Takes place the night of the ASAD invasion. It is around the first part of November, just after the Titans helped in rescuing Black Canary from Apokolips. It has been about 2 months since the Titans had reformed under Val’s leadership*

His eyes were closed and his breathing was slow and smooth.

The young man stood completely rigid and still, his back perfectly straight, his legs spread and bent at the knees. He was in the traditional Japanese Kiba Dachi, known in American schools as the Horse Stance.

The air brushed against the warrior’s naked chest as he stood motionless on the roof of the Titan’s Tower. The breeze had a slight tinge of cold to it, as they had just entered into the month of November. While San Francisco was normally warm, it did get to around 50 degrees this time of year.

Two months… I can’t believe it has been nearly two months since I became the leader of the Titans. It seems like only yesterday when I was shopping in the mall Tas… that’ll be a day I’ll never forget.

Val Armorr felt his heart rate and breathing slightly increase as he thought about the first time Tasmia and he had kissed. The prodigal martial artist was known for keeping his emotions and body in check, but Tasmia had a way of breaking through all his years of training. A small smile crept on the warrior’s face, but he shook it off and went back to his deep meditation.

Our first mission, a week later, had been to help recapture the super villains that had escaped from the Metropolis Metahuman Facility. Most of us were surprised that the Titans had been called; after all, the JLA were Headquartered in Metropolis. We found out later that the Pantheon, a villain team led my Triumph, had broken out Solomon Grundy and released the rest of the prisoners as a diversion. It had been a good first test for the team, and the Titans had performed well.

Val opened his eyes and quickly shot both hands forward with spear hands. In less than a heartbeat, he looked to his left and performed a perfectly executed sidekick. Before his foot even touched the ground he turned back to his right and spun into a spinning backfist. The warrior continued his kata as his thoughts again drifted to the past few months.

Invasion… that was a traumatic experience for all of the Titans. Many of us had been captured, some even mind controlled by the Kherans. I was lucky enough to be considered a ‘non threat’, and that ended up being a benefit that helped save the earth. Many of us ‘non-superpowered’ heroes came together and formed a resistance. I teamed up with Batman, Oliver Queen, Crow, Robin, Prodigy, and many others. It was our efforts that destroyed the mind controlling devices and freed the prisoners, enabling one final battle that defeated the Kheran army. We still had almost lost, but luckily Geo-Force, a member of the JLA, located and destroyed the Planet Shapers. It was a miracle.

I’ll never forget that experience though, as Batman and I really ‘bonded’ well… considering that fact that the Batman doesn’t ‘bond’ with anyone.

Val was half-way through his routine, one that he could literally do in his sleep, when his next thoughts actually caused him to lose his concentration.

Then there came the revelation that Dinah Lance was still alive; my past lover and fiancée…I couldn’t believe it when Batman had given me the news. To make matters worse, Dinah had been captured by Darkseid, the dark god of Apokalips, and reprogrammed into some crazed Female Fury. The JLA was seeking help, and with the combined efforts of the JLA, Tribunal, and Titans, we freed Dinah and sent Darkseid running. Captain Comet and the Martian Manhunter were able to ‘fix’ Dinah’s mind and she was now part of the JLA again.

It was a strange experience when she ‘came to her senses’. We had worked so hard to free her and save her, and it had messed with my emotions. But I remember standing there watching as she greeted everyone and realizing that the true love of my heart was right next to me… Tasmia.

Val, having broken his concentration from his kata, stood up straight and looked down and across the San Francisco bay. A loud thunderous boom sounded in the sky and was accompanied by two streaks of lightening. Large, dark clouds covered the San Francisco sky as the storm rolled in. Cold raindrops began to slowly fall down upon the young warrior and the soft taps of the rain hitting the roof began to fill his ears.

Val looked up and pushed his hair back from his face, allowing the cool rain to come down upon him. He breathed in deeply, taking in the fresh smell that always accompanied the rain. He figured now would be a great time to head down to the lounge area and start up a nice warm fire in the fireplace. He had the Tower to himself this evening, as the other Titans all had previous engagements.

Making his way down into the Tower, Val grabbed a towel from a bathroom and started to dry himself off as he continued his trek. Half way to the lounge area, he had his pants off and tossed them on the dryer. Wrapping the tower around himself, he entered the lounge area, turned on the stereo, and then made a fire in the fireplace.

Walking over to the large couch, Val plopped down and put his feet up on the coffee table. He rested back with his hands behind his head and closed his eyes.

Buddy's feet touched the Grass just on the fringes of the tower. It was actually kind of a cozy feeling, it was a protected area, clearly. The Tree's were full of insects, chirping and calling to each other in a symphony of sounds. Buddy smiled as he listened to it.

Insect's weren't clever, not by a long shot but they were very, very sweet and beautiful. Their laws were governed, like most animals, by strength and wealth; but also by sounds and colour. As the Crickets told each other they were massive, but also very pretty, Buddy couldn't help but think it was very appropriate for the city they were in.

Titan's Tower.

It was really rather Big. And Shaped like a T. He wondered what the JLA base would look like if it was shaped like a J,L, and A.

As he walked up the pathway, he stopped removing his Shoes, because he felt like it, and letting his toes move through the grass. it was a really pleasent feeling, even if the Atmosphere was seriously ionised and charged with Electricity. It made him feel a little more easy.

He'd nearly been knocked off course twice using the Bird Navigational method of seeing and moving by Magnetic waves. It was somewhat difficult when the air was basically a huge crackling mess, still he was here.

Here to see Starfire, mostly because he missed her, but also because he needed to talk to her. He wanted to know if she had something he could synch up with - Something that would help him make sense of what was going on.

Because Buddy was desperatly confused, over the last few month's he'd experienced a shedload of new feelings, emotions and even thoughts and powers. He'd bounced through time, and he'd spoken to himself, been focused and lax, like he couldn't keep his thoughts inside of his head; Recently he'd been having flashes, mental discrepancies.

It was like staring at a spiders web, a web that connected to everything, so intricatly and perfectly that he couldn't move without breaking a strand. He was paralyzed by knowledge, and for someone like Buddy Baker, who unlike the JLA, or the JSA, or even half the Titans, that was scary.

He wasn't a Scientist, or a Detective, or an Alien Warlord, or time displaced genius, from another world, an andriod, or anything out of the Ordinary. He was just some guy who ended up on the wrong end of some bored Aliens.

Sure he tried to do right, but most of the time - Most of the time he could barely figure out what he should be doing with his family, let alone trying to figure out the ill's of the world. All he knew was that he had to try, and that he had to see if anyone, ANYONE at all might be able to help him, no matter the Tenuous link - And if anyone would volunteer, it would be Kory.

As he approached the Door, he looked down at the small Alien garden Kory had planted. Reaching down, and crouching he touched one of the bulbous heads and smiled. Kory had brought a little of her home back with her - At least she had that. He remained low down, rubbing his hands together and casting his mind back to his own theories - Since the incident on the Amazon Island, involving the Psuedo-Red, some sort of...Mystical connection to the life-stream, as well as the return of the somewhat...changed Silent Walkers, Buddy was feeling the effects of the Earth more heavily than normal.

There was a weight on his shoulders he wished he could shift, but it wasn't moving anywhere, anytime soon. He took a deep, long breath and stood to his feet, closing his eyes and hoisting his Boots off the floor.

He'd never been the Tower before, mind you, so a Doorbell would have been nice. He wrapped his knuckles against the metallic surface a few times before noticing the Intercomm, and spoke, in an embarressed tone through the Speaker.

"Uhmmm...Teen Titans? Is..Kor...Is Starfire there? It's Buddy Baker, I mean, Animal Man. I have an Out-Of-Date JLA Ident Card here; Not really the same as an In-date one, but at least i got it right?"

Not evena little bit subtle. He scolded himself mentally and waited for the door to open. Hopefully it won't be someone like Beast Boy, who no doubt would mock him until he ran out of jokes, and knowing Beast Boy, there wasn't any chance of that happening this side of Forever.

The sound of music was the only thing filling Val’s mind as he relaxed in the lounge of the Titan’s Tower. Life in general had been very busy since he became leader of the Titans, and this night was one of the few in which he was able to discard all duties and responsibilities.

He currently had a CD in that contained a compilation of some of his favorite meditative music. The sounds, tones, and melodies were engulfed in his very being and he was truly are peace.

Let’s Rip It!

Badda…Badda…BOOM!

Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightening
But they fought with expert timing

The young Val Armorr stood on the couch, his towel still wrapped around his waist, his eyes glaring at the stereo system that was blaring at what seemed like it’s maximum output.

Someone had tampered with his CD, editing it to not only include the song that was currently playing, but to raise the volume output to near the highest level. They had included enough of his meditative music to get him completely relaxed, and then rammed this tidbit in there to obviously startle and rattle him.

It was a joke, but Val wasn’t laughing. In fact, Val’s heart rate was currently beating much faster than normal and his pupils were dilated. He was sure that whoever was the culprit would have found it all very funny, especially with Val standing on the couch in a towel.

“Zach…..”

Val knew that is was the young sorcerer. Zachary Zatara was a proud and arrogant person who had a hard time relating to people, but Val had seen in him a great amount of courage, intelligence, and compassion for his teammates. Val had pointed this out to Zach on multiple occasions and he had wholeheartedly denied it. Still, Val could tell he was starting to open up to him, and as a result, Val had found himself at the mercy of multiple pranks by the wizard.

A smile slowly crept on Val’s lips as the humor of the situation began to manifest. Then, after a few more moment of contemplation, the young warrior began to dance around the lounge in his towel.

Everybody was Kung-fu Fighting was a favorite song of his, and he often times would play it during his workout or sparring sessions with teammates. He would always do his Karate dance moves to the song, and he enjoyed it tremendously.

"Uhmmm...Teen Titans?”

Val barely heard the intercom over the blaring stereo system. He quickly rushed over to the system and turned off the music.

“….Is..Kor...Is Starfire there? It's Buddy Baker, I mean, Animal Man. I have an Out-Of-Date JLA Ident Card here; not really the same as an In-date one, but at least I got it right?"

Val scratched his head as he began walking up the stairs, heading to the main level of the Tower.

Buddy Baker? Animal Man?

Val said the name in his head and tried to remember anything on the once-member of the JLA. Nothing came to his head as he made his way into the main hall.

“Be right there.”

Val said, his voice projecting through the Intercom.

He’s here to see Starfire… she hasn’t been a member of the Titan’s for quite a few years.

Val was just about to engage the door when he realized he was still wearing only a towel.

“Um, you’ll have to excuse me a little longer.”

Val quickly ran down the hall and into the laundry room. He opened the dryer and reached for his silk Kung Fu uniform he had put in there earlier. In a matter of moments he had it on and ran back down the hall.

Engaging the large security door, it beeped and slid to the side, revealing a bright and starlit sky. Val stepped out onto the concrete and looked for his visitor.

“Animal Man? Buddy Baker? Are you still here?”

The only thing that greeted him was the sound of the stream only 20 years away from the Tower. Val was just about to go back inside when a slight movement caught his eye. Peering closer, Val saw a hummingbird hovering near the garden. It was near the flowers that Starfire had planted many years ago… something Val only knew because of his own inquiries, for they were quite lovely and bloomed all year round.

The thing that was odd about this, which Val picked up on right away, was that the scene he was viewing was out of balance. Many people would not have picked up on it, but Val was very in-tune with the world around him. The issue was that it was November, and hummingbird’s all migrated south, to either Mexico or Central America. This hummingbird was clearly out of place.

Walking over to the garden with his hands clasped behind his back, Val smiled as the grass tickled his feet. Stopping at the edge of the garden, Val nodded down and smirked to the hummingbird, which was hovering and looking his direction.

“Hello Animal Man, I am Val Armorr. It is a pleasure to meet you.”

“Be right there.”

Apparently, that mean't wait longer. Buddy stood at the door-front, staring aimlessly at the intercomm system, his eyes glazing over for a few minutes.

As he snapped back to reality he realised that the guy on the intercomm wasn't going to be right there. In fact, it was going to be "I'll go and sit down somewhere".

Buddy moved away from the door and walked over to another patch of Alien Garden, just underneath a tree. He sighed and sat down against it, looking up into the foliage. It was actually really nice, aside from the whole thunder, lightning and no rain deal.

That was actually really very weird.

“Um, you’ll have to excuse me a little longer.”

Buddy waved at the distant intercomm and smiled to himself.

"Take your time, Intercomm Man." He said without much in the way of sympathy. Maybe he'd caught him in the middle of some alone time. The guy might have been in the middle of learning to love himself or something - After all - TEEN Titans.

Eh, well, time to look at the flowers right?

“Animal Man? Buddy Baker? Are you still here?”

Buddy was just about to get to his feet and wave, when Val started to walk away from him. Raising his hand and then letting it drop, he watched curiously as the kid walked over to the Hummingbird.

“Hello Animal Man, I am Val Armorr. It is a pleasure to meet you.”

Stiffling a laugh, Buddy got to his feet and cleared his throat.

"Hello Val Armorr, I'm Buddy Baker - Emphasis on the MAN Part of Animal Man."

Since Val wasn't wearing a Mask, Buddy took his off as well, holding the cowl in his hand and walking over to the Titan, he smiled and extended a hand to the silk clad hero.

"Pleasure to meet you, I'd get upset that you didn't know about me, but I'm not really very famous. I'm a bit like Karl Linnaeus; I was about and around but well, i'm not as famous as people like Darwin." He shot Val a wink and then looked at the Hummingbird, which buzzed over to him and seemed to Orbit his body.

"Animals do that." He shrugged it off and then began to question why there was a Hummingbird here.

"You know...He shouldn't be here. I think something weirds going on...Everything appears to be a bit...Out of alingment, you ever get that feeling?" He shook his head a little and smiled again at Val.

"Hey I know weird circumstances and everything, but i'm trying to get hold of Kory..You know Starfire about Five Ten, Golden Skin, dressed in a thong that was inpractical for any situation beyond seduction? That sort of business." He spoke a lot of with his hands. Buddy was an expressive person, and as he spoke, his limbs flailed about like a crash dummy hitting a wall at high speed.

"I'd really like to speak with her, If that's alright? We've kind of got a history and...You know, I need her help."

He smiled again, and waited for Val. It was clear the guy was some kind of Martial artist, amongst other things maybe, but he didn't know if he was extremely violent or anything like that. Who knew with the Titans, didn't they have all sorts of crazies over the Years?

A lot had changed in two months. It seemed aliens were falling out of the sky everyday, a few Titans seemed to be very low key since the event, and Charlie had actually matured some. It was all completely different, especially at Titan’s tower where it seemed that only Charlie lived there. Then there was the exception of Val…Who she actually feared. He seemed so professional, so serious, even more then Robin had been. Charlie was always afraid she’d mess up, or he’d find her childish.

She proved herself to some during the invasion.

During the last invasion, Misfit stuck close to Oracle helping heroes out when they were in need of some information. Oracle finally told her she had been quite useful, helpful, and that made Misfit completely proud. After the aliens were finally gone Misfit settled down for a while, mainly staying in her Room when the Titans weren’t on missions.

She was making a new costume. It was closer to a Batgirl costume, just in case Babs softened up. The colors consisted of mainly black and yellow, her hair had grown, so she decided to put it in a ponytail. One small mask was then applied…and…

Misfit looked exactly like Babs when she was a kid.

Though Charlie had been spending a lot of the time at the Tower, she had been out for the night. Her Thanksgiving Dance had been that night, and after it was over and done with, she wanted to head back to the tower and finish up the last touches in her costume. “The nerve of that Brittany! Wearing the same dress as me…psh, I hope as Turkey Queen they throw her in a pool of gravy! Oh, crap. Look what you did Charlie, made yourself hungry. I need to check on my myspace when I get back to tower first, I’m gonna send her a nasty message and a picture of gravy and ---.”

When she finally opened the door to Titan’s tower, she heard the voices of two grown men. One was obviously Val, but the other seemed completely unfamiliar.

“Hello Animal Man, I am Val Armorr. It is a pleasure to meet you.”

The name seemed familiar, once or twice when Starfire visited BoP headquarters she mentioned the name.

"Hey I know weird circumstances and everything, but i'm trying to get hold of Kory..You know Starfire about Five Ten, Golden Skin, dressed in a thong that was inpractical for any situation beyond seduction? That sort of business."

Misfit finally joined in the conversation, “I don’t think she’s a Titan anymore. But she may be going around in the nude since I see her costume in little big jar things in her original room. Check there!” Misfit smiled, her freckles rising as she smiled, her red hair in a ponytail swinging round and round.

Val waiting for the hummingbird to fly up and change into Animal Man, but as the seconds began to pass, Val realized that he made a mistake. It was confirmed when he heard soft footfalls behind him and someone clear their throat.

"Hello Val Armorr, I'm Buddy Baker - Emphasis on the MAN Part of Animal Man."

Val smiled slightly as he looked at Buddy, but then kneeled and looked back down at the hummingbird. This encounter was quite odd for the young warrior. First, something was out of sync with the world, he could just feel it. As stated before, the bird should not be here.

Furthermore, Val would have never been surprised like this instance, for he was to in-tune with the world and energy around him. It’s what made him who he was. Shaking his head and realizing he had a guest to accommodate; Val stood back up and shook Buddy’s hand.

"Pleasure to meet you, I'd get upset that you didn't know about me, but I'm not really very famous. I'm a bit like Karl Linnaeus; I was about and around but well, I’m not as famous as people like Darwin."

The names really didn’t mean much to Val. Not knowing someone was very common for Val; after all, he wasn’t from this time period.

"Animals do that. You know...He shouldn't be here. I think something weird is going on...Everything appears to be a bit...Out of alignment, you ever get that feeling?"

Val peered at Buddy with a different look. He wasn’t exactly sure what powers ‘Animal Man’ possessed, but from the way he spoke, it sounded like he had some sort of connection with nature. That intrigued the philosophical warrior. Maybe he would find someone who truly understood how much the world was connected.

"Hey I know weird circumstances and everything, but I’m trying to get hold of Kory..You know Starfire about Five Ten, Golden Skin, dressed in a thong that was impractical for any situation beyond seduction? That sort of business."

Watching Buddy was a bit like watching a hamster; he was always moving and fidgeting. He reminded Val a lot of Jimmy Cullen, aka Kid Quantum. He had the ability to stop time for brief periods, and it always made him appear to flicker and fidget. Val guess he was actually stopping time, doing something, and then coming back and trying to be in the same pose as he had left. He had been the first Legionnaire to die in action.

"I'd really like to speak with her, if that's alright? We've kind of got a history and...You know, I need her help."

Val was just about to answer when he heard another person approaching. Both Buddy and he turned and watched as Misfit walked onto the grass and over to their location. Val watched Buddy to see if there was any sort of recognition or tension, but felt nothing.

“I don’t think she’s a Titan anymore. But she may be going around in the nude since I see her costume in little jar and other things in her original room. Check there!”

Misfit…she was the youngest person on the Titan’s roster, and he age reflected her maturity. She was 100% energy, her vibrant smile and attitude reflected in everything she did. She could be a bit annoying and angst at time, but she was a teenager of the 21st century. She reminded Val the most about his time on the Legion of Superheroes, since the team was made up of teenagers as young as 15 years old. Of course the teens of this age were much different that those of the 31st century.

Val saw a lot of good in Misfit, and he felt it was his personal duty, not only as leader of the Titans, but as one of the more mature and experienced Titans, to mentor the young hero. She was extremely naïve, but also had an enormous amount of potential. If he could convert all of her energy into focus, discipline, and training, she could become a world renowned hero.

“Buddy, this is Misfit.”

Val said as he motioned towards the young heroine, who smiled brightly and waved.

“You’ll have to excuse my error in judgment… when I saw the bird, and then your name ‘Animal Man’, I made an assumption. I apologize if I offended you in any way.”

Val looked over to the garden in search of the hummingbird, but it must have had its fill of nectar and flew away.

“Misfit is right; Kory has not been a member of the Titan’s for a few years. Last I heard she was a member of the Outsiders.”

Val saw a little disappointment on Buddy’s face and realized that he probably already knew this. He probably hadn’t had any luck with the Outsiders, as they were a very secretive organization. Maybe he was hoping one of the Titan’s knew where she was.

“Why don’t we head inside and see if we have her last location… better yet, I bet she still has a Titan’s communicator, and we can try that.”

Positive energy filled the air as Buddy smiled and nodded. Val motioned towards the Tower and they all started inside.

“By the way, we’re now the Titan’s, not Teen Titans. While some of the members are still teens…”

Val nodded towards Misfit.

“…many of us haven’t been teenagers for several years…”

Walking into the main area of the Tower, Val watched as Misfit ran up to the console and began typing in Starfire’s name into the database. She was always eager to help.

“So Charlie, I thought you had plans tonight? Did you change your mind, or did you want to come back and do some more training?”

Val could see the tension roll over Misfit. He knew that she was somewhat scared of him and yet he was unsure why. It may just be his focus on discipline, that he was always in control, or that he seemed to narrow in on her when it came to training. He knew that she failed to realize he did it all for her benefit.

“I don’t think she’s a Titan anymore. But she may be going around in the nude since I see her costume in little jar and other things in her original room. Check there!”

Buddy's attention turned to Misfist. She was pretty vibrant, he felt a lot of good energy off her. In fact, she reminded him what his daughter might be like if she were a teenager, rather than the somewhat grim and almost disturbing at times, Cliff. The kids had both been through so much, but somehow, Maxine's connection to the Red had allowed her to maintain her Inncence. He smiled to misfist, showing a bit of teeth at her comment.

“Buddy, this is Misfit.”

"Hey Misfit." He continued his smile and nodded towards her a little. He also gave a little wave, but decided - Teenager, Waving Equals Embaressment and he was sure Cliff would have slapped him in the back or something to communicate that. At least there wasn't any dancing, Buddy had only been a father for 15 years, but he probably danced like his Dad.

“You’ll have to excuse my error in judgment… when I saw the bird, and then your name ‘Animal Man’, I made an assumption. I apologize if I offended you in any way.”

"Nah. I get that a lot."

The Hummingbird left the orbit around his body and flew away, though Buddy could still feel it's connection to this place, and everything around it. It was going to be a baffling few days.

“Misfit is right; Kory has not been a member of the Titan’s for a few years. Last I heard she was a member of the Outsiders.”

"Eh, well...Finding the Outsider's is a lot more difficult than finding the Titan's, and to be perfectly honest, i don't really want to get involved with them. They always seem to end up on the wrong end of a beating, or an exploding Prison, and I have a wife and kids to look after, can't really be seen letting Super-Villains free. Some of us don't really have a Secret Identity."

It was a sincere statement. Buddy had heard about the Outsiders, and their business, and he didn't REALLY want to get embroiled in that.

“Why don’t we head inside and see if we have her last location… better yet, I bet she still has a Titan’s communicator, and we can try that.”

Buddy nodded a litte. He wasn't expecting it to be easy, but well, he wasn't exactly expecting to be wandering around forever either.

“By the way, we’re now the Titan’s, not Teen Titans. While some of the members are still teens…”

Buddy watched as Val nodded towards Misfit.

“…many of us haven’t been teenagers for several years…”

Wasn't really any need for that Scolding, no matter how small it was, She was only a kid after all, but Buddy guessed the Titans had changed quite a bit since the older days of Side-kick's R' Us.

"Ah, well, at least Teenagers are still welcome right? Who better to teach the younger Generation how to use their powers than the Titans? Unless, you know, you count the JSA."

Buddy watched them both use the Computer system. Val was a lot more adept than Misfit, but she was trying hard. Eager to please you might say. She typed in Kory's name, but Val was more stoic and vigilante with the information.

“So Charlie, I thought you had plans tonight? Did you change your mind, or did you want to come back and do some more training?”

"Ah, you don't have to train every night do you?" Buddy feigned a mixture of shock and suprise. He didn't train hard at all. Mind you, he wasn't exactly a full time superhero. He glanced down at his slightly tighter than normal costume around the midriff.

"Yeeeah. Maybe I should train a LITTLE bit more than I do now, but still, you gotta have a night off every now and then right? Watch some TV, eat some Chips, play some Video games..Cliff Does it all the time, though that could explain why he's such a little Bas..."

Buddy catch himself and flash a partially embarressed smile towards the two.

"Nevermind."

Misfit looked back and forth and back and forth while the two discussed what the Titans were like nowadays. It was sort of amusing, and then when Val gave her the look, she blushed.

“Well, yeah, I guess you could consider me a non-old person. No offense to either of you.” Misfit looked at her feet and noticed how dirty they were.

“So Charlie, I thought you had plans tonight? Did you change your mind, or did you want to come back and do some more training?”

“Oh --- That. Well I…” Charlie started speaking but before she could say much Animal Man made a small joke. She zipped her mouth for a minute and waited for him to finish once more.

"Ah, you don't have to train every night do you?"

Misfit gave that large smile once again, “Of course not! This was my choice. Thanksgiving dances are overrated, not to mention make you fat enough where you can’t even celebrate the actual holiday.” She gave one more smile and then turned to Val to finish her previous statement.

“I wanted to finish this new costume I had in mind, I need something more superheroey, more Bat Familish. If that’s even a word…” Misfit played around with her ponytail and Animal man made one more joke. Or an accident, either would fit the description.

"Yeeeah. Maybe I should train a LITTLE bit more than I do now, but still, you gotta have a night off every now and then right? Watch some TV, eat some Chips, play some Video games..Cliff Does it all the time, though that could explain why he's such a little Bas..."

Charlie looked over at Val with a Did he really just say thatlook.

"Nevermind."

“Erm…yep…well Mr. Animal Man, it was a pleasure to meet you. I need to --- uh, go talk to my friends on the computer or something…” Misfit felt completely awkward, the conversation was a bit odd for her. Maybe it was just adult business, she’d think to herself.

Once Misfit left the room, she continued with her costume, sewing up the last few stitches and then…

She was finished.

((Mkay, gonna stay out of the thread until the Aliens come xD!))

Val watched as Misfit typed away at the computer. She, like most teenagers of this age, was a ‘Computer Geek’. It was the age of computers, and Val was glad he wasn’t trapped in a time where computers hadn’t been invented yet… Being from the 31st century, computers were everywhere. Val was good at using them, but generally you didn’t have to type on them, you just spoke to them.

Val could tell that Misfit was enjoying herself. After his question about her evening, and if she came back for more training, she turned and began to speak.

“Oh --- That. Well I…”

He could see her looking for an explanation, but she was interrupted by Animal Man.

"Ah, you don't have to train every night do you?"

“Of course not! This was my choice. Thanksgiving dances are overrated, not to mention make you fat enough where you can’t even celebrate the actual holiday.”

She gave a warm smile to Buddy, and then turned back to Val.

“I wanted to finish this new costume I had in mind, I need something more superheroey, more Bat Familish. If that’s even a word…”

Val smiled and shook his head. Misfit seemed to care more about her clothing and appearance than… well, it was typical for the young of the world.

"Yeeeah. Maybe I should train a LITTLE bit more than I do now, but still, you gotta have a night off every now and then right? Watch some TV, eat some Chips, play some Video games..Cliff does it all the time, though that could explain why he's such a little Bas..."

Crossing his arms, Val smirked while Buddy began describing his ‘relaxation’ time. It was far different from what Val would consider relaxing, but more people would consider him rather odd. Val was a minimalist, as well as being extremely disciplined in his physical and mental routines.

"Nevermind."

“Erm…yep…well Mr. Animal Man, it was a pleasure to meet you. I need to --- uh, go talk to my friends on the computer or something…”

Perplexed, Val wondered why Misfit was leaving without having given him a rundown of what she found out about Starfire. She had just turned and left without saying a word. Val watched her head down the hall and then turned back to Buddy.

“I have to apologize for her rather erratic behavior. She goes 100mph all the time…. She means well, but she still has a lot to learn.”

Clearing his throat, Val walked over to the console and tried to figure out where Misfit had stopped. Looking down, Val let out a small laugh.

“Evidently she found what you were looking for… she just figured we could read it as easy as her.”

Val motioned for Buddy to come over and read what Misfit had found.

On the display was a history of Starfire, including the past two years since she had left the Titans. It listed all of her previous addresses, as well as her current location.

“Well, it looks like this should help you out.”

Val printed out all the information for Buddy to take with him. As he walked over to the printer, Val paused; something was not right. There was something wrong with the air… with ‘space’. Val had always had a keen sense of environmental information, and right now his extraordinary senses were picking up something he couldn’t pinpoint.

“Do you feel that….”

The question was barely audible, and Val really didn’t expect Buddy to answer. Val held out his hands, palms facing down, and tilted his head slightly. Every natural and supernatural sense that he had was on maximum.

“Space… or maybe time… some kind of instability.”

Then Val picked up something else…. life.

“Something’s here….”

Val called is ‘something’, because he knew that was he was sensing was not human. Every form of life had a unique signature, and he could sense that signature quite clearly. This life form he was sensing was far from human.

Val took off running down the hall. The life form he was sensing was close to Misfit!

“Of course not! This was my choice. Thanksgiving dances are overrated, not to mention make you fat enough where you can’t even celebrate the actual holiday.”

Buddy quirked an eyebrow. Someone who wanted to train? Man they breed Titan's Dilgent these days. In fact, it seemed as though a lot of the younger heroes were a lot more dedicated to the cause of heroing than Buddy.

Though to be fair he had other things to Champion, Tofurky being one of those things. Animal rights, Animal testing, that sort of business. He thought about those, particularly the Tofurky, as he rest a hand on his slightly larger than normal stomach.

“I wanted to finish this new costume I had in mind, I need something more superheroey, more Bat Familish. If that’s even a word…”

Whilst it was typical for every other Teenager in the world, it appeared Cliff was much more at home drawing his own comics, which appeared to be increasingly more violent since his experience with Dudley.

He caught Misfit's look to Val, and Val's reaction of crossing his arms, as he caught himself swearing about his kid. Well, it happens.

“Erm…yep…well Mr. Animal Man, it was a pleasure to meet you. I need to --- uh, go talk to my friends on the computer or something…”

He'd made her uncomfortable. Another reason why he was so very worried about Maxine becoming a Teenager. That and the fact...Would she have boyfriends? Would she be a part time, full time super hero? Would see go out wearing clothes that barely covered her skin? He didn't want any of that. He was rubbish with children, really.

“I have to apologize for her rather erratic behavior. She goes 100mph all the time…. She means well, but she still has a lot to learn.”

"Ah, don't worry. I've got a 7 year old who's pretty similar. She runs around all the time, and nothing seems to hold her interest. It's actually pretty cool though, She shares the same sort of connection to the world as me, so i've got someone to talk to."

He left out the fact that she was also the Prophet for a church based on worshipping life rather than any given deity, and he was more of a messiah, having died and been resurected for his cause. That always led to awkward silences.

He followed behind Val as he walked over to the computer, crossing his hands behind his back. This place smelt a little funky. He guessed it was from all the different people moving in and out of it.

“Evidently she found what you were looking for… she just figured we could read it as easy as her.”

He looked over the screen a bit. Computers weren't his area of Expertise, which was handy. He looked aat the various locations, and scratched at his face a little.

“Well, it looks like this should help you out.”

He took the piece of paper, and then started to pat the back of his head like the Rain man. His eye twitched a little and he glanced about. Something was...warping the fields of life around him. He looked to Val, about to open his mouth but the Martial artist got there first.

“Do you feel that….”

"Yeah. I do."

As Val performed his detection, Buddy latched onto some insect senses from the Red, and opened his body up behind Val, some Dragonfly senses, some migratory bird senses, and the Catfish ability to sense electrical fields. Something was warping the Electromagnetic fields around them.

"Jeez," Buddy winced with all the information being flooded into his brain, and processed by the various animal consciousness and adaption's he manifested.

“Space… or maybe time… some kind of instability.”

"I think it's more local than just space, feel's like the displacement of Electro-Magnetic fields. Like a really big Thunder storm, or...being surrounded by a hundred electric eels."

“Something’s here….”

"Yeah, no Kidding. Feels like someone drop kicked my Cerebrum. What the hell IS that? Is it Starfire? Zeta beam Signature?" He scratched at his face, suddenly becoming uncomfortable in his skin.

"It's not ...Zeta Beam." He left white drag lines of disturbed skin down the side of his face, head tilted slightly and on eye closed tightly.

"Yeah. Ow. This hurts."

Val took off running down the hall, Buddy tried to snap himself out of it.

"Shit." He took off down the hall behind Val, it was clear they both felt the same thing, but what exactly was it? Alien in nature, sure, but in that case, Being connected to this cosmic catalogue of animals around the universe, surely he should be able to tell what it was?

He reached out into the Red, which was weirdly warped down the hall. His senses changed as he accessed it, showing everything in a blood like hue, save of Val, who seemed to glow white in the midst of everything. That was weird, he'd never seen anything glow that sort of colour before.

As he sped down the hallway after Val, he tried to grab some enhancements that would make life easier for him. Crab Exoskeleton, Hippo Skin, and Bear strength. A nice eclectic blend there.

He just hoped it was enough to help him through what was coming.

(( Sorry about the Colour Mix up there, mate. I'm colour blind, i was just clicking something that looked like it might be right." ))

“Something’s here….”

Misfit had stayed quietly in her room talking to her friends, the Thanksgiving dance had finally been over and everyone but Brittany had returned home. Misfit felt content, she had finished her costume, met someone new, and was talking to her friends. Not to mention she had eaten some turkey and stuffing at the dance before she came back to Titan’s tower.

As her and her friends commented back and forth, back and forth on the computer, Charlie stopped for a minute. She heard one loud unfamiliar noise, and then complete silence. After that she heard the whispers in a distance of Animal Man and Val, their voices would get closer and closer until…

Tap, tap, tap, tap.

She got up for one minute, looked at her window and noticed something tapping on her window. It didn’t even look human. The hand, fingers, tentacles, whatever appeared to be brown and Misfit stepped closer and closer to her window. She reached for the bottom of the window, pulled up and the thing made an extremely strange noise.

Charlie had jumped about five feet in the air and ran towards her door, afraid that the thing would crawl through the window or something. Charlie wasn’t on the top floor, it would be incredibly easy for something/someone to climb up and get in through her room.

There was a Batarang on Charlie’s bed, she grabbed for it and aimed straight for the creature’s head. It didn’t seem to do anything to it besides annoy it. She threw another one from her night stand and it made that strange noise again. It clawed it’s way into the room and looked…hungry. She stopped in complete shock for a minute. Slowly reaching for the door handle so she could get out.

“What are you…?” Misfit asked the creature, unsure if it could talk, or it would just screech at her, or have a long tongue to feed on her brain…It didn’t make her the slightest bit curious, and she wouldn’t wait around to find out. She opened her door , slammed it and ran down the hallways of the tower looking for Val and Animal man.

“Help!” She cried, not looking back to see if the alien was still behind her. There was no time, she had to escape in whatever way possible.

Just as Val turned into the hall, he heard Buddy start up behind him.

"Yeah, no Kidding. Feels like someone drop kicked my Cerebrum. What the hell IS that? Is it Starfire? Zeta beam Signature?"

Val really wasn’t listening to Buddy, but concentrating his senses…focusing his Ki into the halls ahead. He needed to know what they were dealing with. He needed to protect Charlie.

"It's not ...Zeta Beam."

Tap, tap, tap, tap.

Val knew instantly that the sound he heard was coming from Charlie’s room. Something was tapping on her window. By the reverberations, it sounded as if it was some type of bone hitting the glass. Maybe a claw.

"Yeah. Ow. This hurts."

Val opened his body up to the energy around him. He was moving into a complete state of Zen, where his mind and body were one… every attribute, from his intelligence to his agility, were boosted and reaching superhuman levels. He was at the stage where he was ready to roll with a Daxamite.

"Shit."

Val’s feet barely touched the ground as he moved down the hall. He could sense that the creature had ill intent. It was alien; something Val had never encountered before, even in the 31st century.

There was a commotion in Charlie’s room. Val could hear her heartbeat increase rapidly. She was scared.

“What are you…?”

She was trying to communicate with it.

No Charlie…. Get out of the room!

As if she could hear him, Charlie bolted out of her room and slammed the door, just as Val turned the corner into her hall.

“Help!”

*Crash!*

“Keep running!”

Val said as he ran past Charlie. The alien creature had jumped and crashed through Charlie’s bedroom door. It now stood in the hall looked down at them; it’s large and massive size taking up the whole hall. Val knew he had never encountered anything like it before.

“KIIIIAAHH!!!!”

Springing through the air, Val connected with a flying sidekick directly into the creature’s chest. The alien flew backwards down the hall, roaring as it smashed through the wall of the Tower. Concrete dust filled the hall, but Val continued to move, jumping through the hole he had just created. Something told him that the powerful blow wouldn’t keep the creature down for long.

Landing, he turned around to see that the creature was indeed getting up. Its chest was caved in; a ‘heel’ indention was in the center of its boney chest cavity.

Val studied the creature closely. By the looks of it, the creature possessed super strength and toughness, and was quicker than it looked. Also, it had some sort of energy field around it, probably something that aided in protection or attacks.

That’s when Val noticed that the injury he had caused against it was slowly healing. The damage to its chest was nearly gone.

Val tore down the Corridor, as Buddy sped and skidded on the floor, his heels digging down on the surface, and his body bending downwards, fingers hooking onto the door frame of Misfit's room.

"You alright?"

He waited for a response, it was kind of hard to tell with the roars of an angered beast and the vaporised concrete creating a grey dust that settled on everything. Buddy moved into the room, pulling his cowl over his head and snapping his goggles down over his eyes.

Super hero mode. This mean't that he was going to get punched and possibly have a limb torn off again.

Horray.

"HEY? MISFIST?" He yelled, trying to get over the level of the creature that Val was currently trying to smack about. It was difficult, especially with all the dust. He reached the edge of the room, looking under the bed and inhaling deeply, before coughing loudly.

Charged atmosphere. Must be something to do with the...

His trail of thought derailed completely as he saw Val standing watching the Creature's chest expand outwards, healing itself. Buddy clenched his fist, and looked over his shoulder, lolling his head back and opening his mouth leting out a silent call on the Red.

Something about that Creature was disturbing him, something strange and powerful. That energy around it, it was...unique. Buddy hadn't really encountered many Aliens in his time, Starfire was the only one that really liked him, though Ellen loved the Martian Manhunter. He was always so polite.

As Buddy looked over the hole, he placed his hands on the edge of the crack and vaulted over, landing in a crouch behind Val, and pursing his lips together.

"Psst. Val. Step Back."

Buddy stood to his full height and opened his hands. The buzzing was immense, as was the scuttling sound. From every hole, and every opening insects poured through, swarming around Buddy's body, Bee's, Wasps, Ants, Beetles, even Slugs on his forearms.

"Alien Invasion's, Last time we did this, my Powers got messed up. I'm hoping that doesn't happen this time. Go." Buddy pointed towards the Beast, the Swarm of Beetles, of all sizes, as well as Bee's shot towards the alien, aiming for the eyes and face and any weak spot they might know of.

"This is my planet. These people are under my protection." He looked over at the hole in the wall, and Val

"Even if they don't necessarily need it."

"I'm the Animal Man." He spoke, trying his best to channel Batmanisms as he leapt forwards channeling the strongest animal he could think of to his right arm, and slamming it straight into the Creatures chin.

"Hear Me roar?"
