WotW: Welcome to Our New War - Invasion of Tamaran
« Thread Started on May 9, 2008, 10:23pm »

Myand'r wiped sweat off her brow as she placed the cleaning tools against the side of her home and surveyed her work. A wife of a general of the Tamaranian forces and a mother of four, she often times found herself rising early in the morning to get rid of some minor work done before all hell broke loose (a.k.a., the family woke up.) It was dawn and all around her the suspended pillar like homes of the Tamaranians snoozed quietly unaware that the day was already beginning.

She fanned herself as she walked towards the edge of the terrace and leaned against the railing. It was a mildly warm day, even for the morning and Myand'r already predicted the rest of the day to be overwhelmed by sweltering heat. As she stared out towards the horizon and admired the view of the two rising suns, her peripheral vision caught sight of a bright light to her right. Turning slightly, she stared curiously as the light began to grow bigger and then suddenly began to open. Her eyes bulged and she stepped back apprehensively as the space right before her seemed to rip open, almost as if something was tearing the very seams of space and time. Silenced by complete awe, she felt her whole body freeze as strong gusts of winds sent her long auburn hair flying back and her skin to ripple slightly. Her hand gripped the railing as she held her stance and watched.

The space finally ripped open completely and Myand'r stared at the dark hole before her. Emptiness stared back at her and she began to step forward, curiosity overwhelming her as the cascading black darkness beckoned her. When she was just several feet away, something began to protrude from the portal. Stepping back she watched as the figure began to move straight through the rip and pulled it's head straight the portal. Myand'r stared in horror as an alien towered at least eight to nine feet stepped forward, it's head turning as it seemed to survey the area. Behind it more protrusions occurred and more creatures piled out after it.

The gruesome creature stood before her, it's tall, thin, skeletal body looking at first glimpse potentially fragile, but upon closer inspection possessed tough skin and large muscle buildups as well as bony crests that entailed different areas of the body. Protecting no doubt the most vital parts. It's head was rather huge and since it made no eye contact with her, she was unsure of how its eyes looked. It didn't seem to take notice to Myand'r at first. Instead it was looking around, almost as if it were absorbing it's surroundings, studying the very landscape before it. The group of aliens that had followed after the alpha male (as Myand'r assumed) stood behind him waiting for some sort of signal towards making any movement. Trembling slightly, Myand'r began to back away, moving as slowly and quietly as she possibly could.

The alien stepped forward, almost followed after her as its tri-clawed feet crunched the ground beneath it. It sniffed the air, it's nostrils flaring open as it took in the scent in the area. The actions that the alien took gave Myand'r the impression that it was blind. She stared at it, watching as it's head swiveled and finally looked straight down at her. Her initial assumptions were wrong, the alien was in fact, not blind.

Menacing eyes looked down at her, empty and shrouded by a black tint with single cross shaped pupils on each eye. It blinked, it's eyelids closing from the sides and it opened them again, now possessing eyes with a yellow tint. It growled slightly, the group behind it followed suit, shifting in place and exerting it's heavy feeling of impatience. The creature blinked, again, this time its eyes were red. It paused and now stared directly into Myand'r's eyes. The alien snarled, a set of white jagged teeth glared down at her and Myand'r immediately felt her entire body stiffen. The alien growled again and began to lower its heads, the intensity of its growl increasing as it moved closer and closer to her. Myand'r opened her mouth slightly attempting to say something but only gasps of air escaped her lips. Open mouth and wide eyed like an idiot, Myand'r merely watched as the alien stared straight in her eyes and let out a monstrous roar.

The world shook around her and Myand'r stared into the mouth of the beast. Spit and hot air collided onto her face as it let out its shrill roar. Trembling even more now, she watched as the hoards of aliens walked after their leader, claws extending from its fingers and its muscles flexing underneath its skin.

As the lead alien raised its clawed hand, Myand'r finally found her voice and exerted a blood curling scream that without a doubt awoke Tamaran and warned them of the oncoming death, destruction, and practically unstoppable invasion.

There was something about the early sunrise that entranced Queen Komand'r. Something about a monstrous giant peeking its way slowly into the world, almost as if it didn't want to be noticed mystified her. So she would awake early every morning, take her cooling bath and watch the suns rise to beckon the coming of a new day. By this time, she was finishing her bath, and her servants rushed around grabbing her towel and clothing that way they would be ready as soon as she exited the tub.

Stepping out of the large bath, Komand'r naked body gleamed as the sunlight hit it, causing her skin to glisten and to almost look like bronze. Holding her hands out, she felt her servants rush forward and begin to towel her off completely. After they dried her off, they began to rub lotion all over her body and sprayed her with fragrances. Staring at herself in the mirror, Komand'r admired her beauty. She was everything, gorgeous, powerful, independent, a true leader and ruler, she wouldn't be offended if anybody was envious of her. They had every right to be. After all, she was Queen Komand'r, leader and savior of Tamaran and its people.

She was everything.

So she liked to tell herself everyday. A smile etched upon her face as she pulled on a robe and moved towards the exit of the bathing room prepared to change into more royally fitting clothes.

*BANG*

Each of her servants jumped back as the large gold double doors were slammed open. Komand'r on the other hand stood her ground, a firm and annoyed look painted across her face as she watched her head General rush into the room sweat and blood all over him. Before he could come any closer to her, she held her hand out motioning for him to stop. Immediately recognizing his Queen, the General came to a halt and bent down on one knee giving her a respectful bow.

“My Queen-”

The General began, his head still bent low.

“General Admynd'r would you kindly explain why you are interrupting my morning covered in sweat and blood? If this another one of your military training exercises gone wrong, I'm not interested.”

Komand'r interrupted in a haughty voice, her hands placed firmly on her hips as she tapped her foot impatiently on the floor. There was nothing that annoyed her more in life than somebody interrupting her morning ritual.

“Queen Komand'r, Tamaran, she is being attacked by creatures, aliens out of this world. They appeared earlier today, and have completely destroyed at least three of our cities, my Queen-”

Komand'r's face began to turn a deep shade of red as she listened to the General's report. He paused, wondering how his Queen would take the latter part of this news. General Admynd'r knew his Queen too well, and he knew that Komand'r would not take the news of her entire planet being raided very lightly.

“Our forces are dwindling, Queen Komand'r we need require a general command concerning these aliens.”

Anger was clearly evident in her face. Her emerald green eyes flared dangerously, and she gripped her robe with her claw like hands. With her lips pursed, Komand'r said nothing as she brushed past the General in a violent manner and stormed out of the room. Her servants quickly followed after her, leaving the General to remain down on one knee as his Queen cursed in her native Tamaranian tongue.

***

The battlefield beneath her was strewn with civilian bodies and debris. Komand'r's lips were extremely thin as she surveyed the scene before her. Complete and utter chaos, inevitable failure, and such sorrowful dispositions were laid out in front of her. The Tamaranian society reduced to rubble, to nothing, how could this have happened? And all in a single morning, and a mere few minutes, how was any of this possible?

“Major Kiest'r.”

Komand'r began, turning to the military officer next to her.

“Where is the rest of your brigade?”

Komand'r inquired, staring back out to the ruined city where she caught sight of the one creatures pulling out of an alleyway and running across the street.

“All dead Ma'am... those creatures, they devoured every one of my men...”

She clenched the railings of the ship that she was on, her eyes focused on the aliens as their numbers began to grow larger on the street below them. It dawned about her that almost a third of the population had been cut down by these primitive looking creatures. All through a blood thirsty battle, and the Tamaranians, the finest warriors in the Galaxy could not stand up against them. Something was very wrong here.

“We have no intel on these aliens?”

Komand'r inquired, her hands arms held in front of her as she fixed the silver bracers on her wrists.

“No ma'am... we've checked the databases, we've tried to communicate with them, but we have gathered nothing on these aliens.”

Again, her lips pursed, and she watched the aliens turn in slight unison as they pinpointed their next target. Komand'r and her own battalion. Crossing her arms over her chest, she examined the creatures with extreme nonchalance in her eyes as the violet gem of Zamaron glowed on tiara.

“Well it looks as if we've been spotted...”

Komand'r began, rising slightly in the air. Her body became incased in violet energy as she stared down at the oncoming aliens.

“Tamaranians! ATTACK!”

Instantly, her battalion obeyed her order and every soldier that was covered in clad armor and armed with various weapons began to march forward. After several steps, they began to run forward, and then finally broke into a sprint, moving into the clash with the Aliens. The clanging of weapons and the talons of the aliens echoed throughout the air, and Queen Komand'r watched as her soldiers began with the upperhand. Aliens were sliced in two, or smashed into the ground. It seemed as if they were having excellent progress, she failed to understand how the Tamaranians had allowed a third of their population to get killed when they were doing fine just now.

Then, she noticed it. The aliens, although disabled, were not completely finished. Watching the pieces of the aliens, she watched as they began to piece together, they began to regenerate, they were coming back to life. She opened her mouth to call out to her troops, but discovered it was too late. As the creatures healed, they sprang from the ground, and burst forward with uncanny speed leaping onto the soldiers and devouring their heads.

“Vermin...”

Komand'r muttered in a dangerously low voice, almost growl as she began to slowly descend from her platform. Holding her hand out, the violet energy field around her hand began to form a blade. Burst forward at blinding speeds, she flew straight through the hoards of aliens, slashing, dicing and cutting along the way, her green eyes shining brilliantly as rage began to overwhelm her.

After several moments, Komand'r breathed in and out heavily, flicking her arm allowing the violet energy blade to recede back as shielding around her hand. Turning around she surveyed her work, hundreds of aliens cut into pieces on the ground, shredded to bits.

*GrRrrrrruull*

The brilliant Tamaranian Queen turned to find a large Alien towering over her, its teeth bared and saliva dripping from its lips.

“Filth... how dare you challenge the Tamaranian people.”

Komand'r began, her hands glowing a violet haze as she began to gather her solar energy. The alien prepared itself, its arms held at its sides. From behind, Komand'r could hear the sounds of other aliens as they rose after regenerating their lost body parts.

“You come to terrorize my people?”

Komand'r continued, rising in the air, her arms completely encased in solar energy now.

“Then feel the wrath of an angry queen!”

With that said, Komand'r unleashed a blinding blast of solar energy. Violet energy sprayed from her hands and rained down upon the aliens. With the power equivalent to the burning sun, Komand'r knew that these aliens had no chance of survival.

Breathing heavily, Komand'r felt the light fade from her burst of energy and she smelled the burnt flesh of aliens and dead Tamaranian soldiers alike. Clenching her fists, she looked around, daring anything to move.

*GRrrRRRRR*

Komand'r turned slowly, her movement extremely stiff as she saw from the corner of her eye, another hoard of aliens climbing onto the scene. They hung from the edges of buildings, the sides of street poles, and stepped out of dark corners on the streets. Taking heavy interest in the lone Queen who hovered over charred bodies, they moved forward cautiously.

“ARE THERE MORE OF YOU?!”

Komand'r yelled, becoming annoyed by their numbers.

“BRING ALL OF YOURS DISGUSTING BRETHERN FORTH... SO I MAY CRUSH ALL OF YOU!”

Komand'r shrieked, holding her hands out and shooting violet darts of energy towards the aliens. In response, the hoards of aliens leaped from their positions and showered down upon Komand'r, shrouding the queen in the darkness of their bodies.

As they cascaded upon her, the roar of Queen Komand'r could be heard as she fought valiantly in the name and honor of the Tamaranian people.

Kayla hated Oa. Both the Green Lantern Corps and their masters, the self-proclaimed “Guardians of the Universe” were a collective of arrogant incompetents whose meddling in galactic affairs was neither decisive nor direct. Which to Kayla’s mind, rendered them an utterly pointless organization. What was the use, she wondered, of possessing such vast knowledge that it dwarfed even the acquired learning in her own Fortress when they weren’t going to use it?

She listened to the droning rhetoric of the Thanagarian delegate, a rhetoric punctuated with the usual half-veiled taunts to their neighbours of Rann. That there was no Raan-an ambassador present didn’t seem to deter the Thanagarian who was encouraged by the smirks of several philtrum-possessing Green Lanterns.

If the Guardians were bad, the Green Lantern Corps were worse. The infinitely wise and powerful Guardians who were supposed to guide the universe to a better, more peace oriented future chose had a remarkably simple entrance qualification for their enforcers – the lack of fear. Brilliant. It was all Kayla could to keep from sneering at them openly. It was absurd – you possess the most powerful weapon in the universe and then gift to a bunch of moronic thugs with the collective mental capacity of a rabbit dropping. Lack of fear indeed – lack of intelligence more likely.

It was not as if there were not perfectly decent Kryptonians still alive: Why the Guardians hadn’t presented her with one of their vaunted trinkets was anyone’s guess but Kayla was certainly not going to debase herself by asking for one. Evidently the Guardians were not as wise as everyone thought – or else they would seen the blindingly obvious choice of having Kayla Jor-El and her fellow Kryptonians lead the Green Lantern Corps and the universe into a new epoch of Kryptonian peace and logic.

Why she had let Kal-El into performing this role – Kryptonian ambassador to Oa –she was at a loss. She should never have agreed, and in retrospect she knew that he had got the better of her in that exchange. He had appealed to her nature, advising that she was best qualified of them all to fulfil the post. He was right of course, but there was a part of her that suspected Kal-El wanted her out of the way so her corrupting influence (as he would have it) wasn’t effecting his young cousin, Kara Zor-El. She showed promise, and was still young enough to appreciate her superior heritage. It was one thing for Kal-El to wallow in his provincial upbringing as he knew no better, but now that the other Kryptonians had the advantage of her presence, it seemed rather churlish of him to covet their attention.

Then again, he was a famous liberal – perhaps she should not have been so forceful with her New Science Council proposal until she had got to know him a little better. Still he would come around to her way of thinking in the end – no matter how hard he tried to clothe himself in the trappings of humanity, he was still a Kryptonian and he should be ruling his genetic inferiors, guiding them as one would a child. Kayla reckoned that it was his ludicrous attraction to the Terran woman that clouded his judgement. Well, she’d be dead in forty years or so whereas his Kryptonian cells would have hardly aged at all – time enough for him to see the light then.

A commotion in the room caused Kayla to snap out of her daydream. She listened to the news that an unknown alien force had attacked Tamaran with some concern. It seemed that the galaxy lurched from one conflict to the next – seemingly with the knowledge of Oa – maybe she had been on earth too long, but she was beginning to suspect the Guardians of being complicit in all of this. Maybe they liked their power too much.

In any event, the pictures beamed in from Tamaran looked grim. Kayla had not seen the attacking life-forms before. But they were definitely not Kryponoid in appearance, thus they were genetically inferior to her. Their behaviour was an affront to all decent minded peoples, judging from what she could see on the monitors. She glanced over at the Green Lanterns who were grinning like idiots, smacking their fists into the palms of their hands, waiting for their leashes to be taken off.

The Guardians, however, had other ideas. They needed to discuss the matter further to ascertain the threat…perhaps it was a ruse…if they were to deploy the Green Lantern corps and left Oa itself vulnerable. Kayla sighed – it was their usual politicians drivel.

She stood. ‘Yes, if the Right Honourable Gentlemen have quite finished,’ she interrupted. ‘People are being killed,’ she indicated the screens. ‘Whilst I appreciate the need for Oa to preserve it’s strength in case of a heavier attack elsewhere, I feel it is my duty to aid these beings – most of whose genetics have left them woefully unprepared for such an assault. Clearly, I am the only being present on this council outside of the Green Lantern Corps that could make such a journey in time to affect the outcome.’

The Guardians looked relieved. ‘This is a wise and brave suggestion,’ one offered. ‘You may go, Kayla Jor-El.’

‘I was not asking for your permission,’ she informed them as she strode out. It occurred to her that perhaps they were looking relieved because she would be out of the way for a while. It seemed that these days, no one liked to face the simple truth of her inherent rightness.

More fool them.

She returned to her apartment and stripped off her robe and one piece Kryptonian bodysuit, replacing it with the universally recognized blue and red outfit emblazoned with the sigil of the House of El.

In less than heartbeat, she was streaking across the stars towards Tamaran.

*

It was a horrifying sight. Kayla was always astounded at the cruelty one race could inflict upon another for no logical reason. The historians would write their chronicles, of course, but they would miss the scenes of horror that were unfolding before her eyes, small acts of petty cruelty that would go unnoticed in the annals yet would scar a child, a life a family for generations. Thank Rao that her Kryptonian superiority freed her from such brutality – imagine the terror she and her fellows could unleash on the stars if they so desired.

She did what she could. Smothering fires, leading people to safety, using her body as a shield, helping the weak, protecting the young. But always, she was only one person and many would die because she could not be everywhere at once. If she had been human, it would have broken her heart.

Time now to take the fight to the enemy. It would not sit well with her counterpart, Kal-El. But then, Kal-El was not here, and Kal-El was – for the moment – pretending to be a human and acting with a human’s logic. She too embraced his code against killing – that was right and proper, and so deeply ingrained in her psyche that she could not disobey it.

On the other hand, these creatures seemed to lack intelligence. They were, then, insentient – like ants or bees. A vermin that killed from instinct not desire. Did Kal-El grieve when he trod on a bug? Actually, he probably did.

Her acute hearing picked up the challenge from miles away…

“BRING ALL OF YOURS DISGUSTING BRETHERN FORTH... SO I MAY CRUSH ALL OF YOU!”

She streaked skywards, seeking the challenger. A beautiful Tamaranian woman stood in the face of the multitude. Evidently a genetic superior, possessed of powers and abilities far beyond those of her kin.

She was brave and strong, her powers great, but even so the mass of non-sentient beings was threatening to overwhelm her.

Kayla narrowed her eyes. Could she? Certainly. Should she? Perhaps not. But there was something inside her that told her that she was right. ‘Burn’ she whispered as she called forth the Heat Vision.

Plasma-hot beams erupted from her eyes, slicing into the non-sentient ranks teamed around the Tamaran Champion, consigning them to ash. She felt the drain on her cells as she poured energy into her attack. But the initial burst had served its purpose and the rush of creatures had been stemmed for a moment. Taking advantage of the respite, she flew down to alight next to the beautiful Tamaranian.

If there was any hope for the Tamaranian race, Koamnd'r was it. She was the only being, besides her sister Koriand'r who wielded the awesome power of solar energy and superior strength. Unlike the other Tamaranians who possessed peak level strength and flight. She was a battery, a fuel of endless and resilient energy, bountiful power that she did not hesitate to show off to prove her superiority before anyone who dared to challenge it. In this case, her challengers, her enemies came in the form of savage aliens who stopped at nothing to be the cause of blood shed. That was something she just could not allow.

However, the overwhelming number of the aliens seemed to come up as a challenge for Komand'r. Although this was obvious, Komand'r was not willing to admit that. Even with the power of the violet gem of Zamaron (which she had stolen a month ago in her search for awesome power) Komand'r found herself completely surrounded by the grotesque creatures whose bared teeth seemed to put grins and smiles on their stoic faces.

From her fight alone she had gathered some details on these creatures. They were strong, almost like her, and possessed tough hides that conventional weapons would not sear through, they were fast, cunning in a primitive sort of way and worked effectively as a group. All that information ran through her head as the flank of aliens descended down upon her, for a moment their dark bodies blocking out the sun and leaving her totally shrouded in their darkness.

Komand'r prepared herself, ready for her own counter attack.

*PiZzzzZzzzZTTtt!*

Heat radiated above her, and Komand'r shielded her emerald green eyes as beams of red energy shined above her, devouring her enemies and sending pieces of their burned flesh raining down upon her. Expanding her shield, she watched in disgust as their fried skin rolled down her violet barrier and then rested on the floor. When the raining finally came to a halt, Komand'r lowered her defenses and looked up to see the familiar red and blue uniform of -

“A Kryptonian?”

Komand'r muttered her thin eyebrows at a high arch as the woman lowered herself and finally placed her being right next to Komand'r. She was beautiful, and power seemed to radiate from her very being. The calm and collective look on the woman's face immediately informed Komand'r that she was not part of this assault. So if she had not come here to gloat about her success in driving the Tamaranian forces into the dirt, then what was she here for?

To help was the last thing that Komand'r thought. It was an idea that she even failed to cover as it was not a resort she normally turned to. Even in such pressing times this proud Queen was willing to fight on her own, no matter the consequences, no matter the outlook, and no matter the complications that the battle might bring. If this Kryptonian was here to help, Komand'r failed to see that, and if it were brought up she would be enraged rather than understandable.

She was too proud to allow anyone to share her battle skills and glory.

There was no time for questions, there was never any time in the case of Komand'r. The brief silence between herself and the Kryptonian was ultimately cut off as a faint hiss from nearby snapped the Queen out of her thoughts. More aliens began to surround her, obviously angered that their brethren had fallen so easily. It was something that they would have to adapt to, other wise the rest of them would be completely ridden of. Their rising numbers reminded Komand'r that there were more of them throughout Tamaran, and to remain in this one battle field jeopardized the rest of the planet and its people.

These aliens were distracting her from the still populated regions of Tamaran, the regions that had a chance to be saved. She would be failing her people as Queen if she continued to remain in this spot. If the aliens wanted blood, they would have to look elsewhere for it. Glancing to the side, she looked at the Kryptonian woman who was flexing her muscles preparing for the advance of the aliens.

Well, at least her new arrival would prove to be an effective distraction.

Raising her hand forward, Komand'r set her sites on the hoards of aliens that stood before her. Charging from within another blast of solar energy, Komand'r backed up, brushing shoulders with the Kryptonian woman.

“If you are here to act as an aid Kryptonian, be wary that your services are not needed. If you have any intention of being resourceful, then you've obviously come to the wrong place.”

Komand'r muttered her stern eyes connecting with the Kryptonians for a split second before she finally unleashed a wave of violet energy that erupted from her hand, and burst forward effectively melting away the fleet of aliens that originally stood in her way. Paving a new path for her, Komand'r burst forward, flying at a blinding speed and leaving the Kryptonian behind to meddle with the rest of the creatures.

Raising both hands, Komand'r roared sending two violet sabers through the head of one of the gruesome creatues. Listening to the burning of the flesh as her weapons easily sheered through, Komand'r made one swift movement and split the alien's head wide open. Leaping off its shoulders, she flipped backwards and landed perfectly on the ground. Before her the alien's body fell forward corrosive acid spilled from its skull and onto the ground burning not only the surface around it, but its body as well.

Peering around, Komand'r caught sight of her Tamaranian soldiers and civilians being rushed towards a safety. While their Queen fought valiantly, they were ushered towards the grand palace where they would be held underground.

Sweat rolled down the side of her face, and Komand'r pursed her lips, watching a few aliens who she thought she had severed, maimed, or blasted away begin to rise to their feet ready for another go at the test of her strength. Breathing in and out heavily, Komand'r closed her eyes, surveying from behind closed lids her battle field. It was endless, tiring, and looked as if victory would be impossible. Shaking her head at the very thought, she raised her hands, now free of the sabers and flexed her fingers.

With another burst of speed, she zipped forward her hands landed on the very first alien. With her burning energy radiating off her hands, she took hold of the top of its head, and with a grunt, tore it apart. Blood spurt from its head, landing on her energy shield and she watched as it tried to slid off. Prepared to move onto the next alien, Komand'r readied herself to launch her body forward.

*UrrRrk!*

Wind escaped from her lungs as she was suddenly jerked back. An alien had took hold of her cape and pulled her back, sending her body to the ground with a heavy thud. She lay there dazed for a moment, almost unable to make any visualizations around her. Then, she saw it, the clawed hand of the creature as it completely covered her face. She felts its claws grip around her skull, which in comparison to its hand was quite small.

Komand'r felt her body rise off the ground as the alien raised her. The rest of her body seemed to hand limply from its grip and deep inside, anger seemed to rise, completely offended by the very idea that this creature had placed its hands on her.

”You fight very well for a flesh creature.”

The voice echoed throughout her head, and for a moment, Komand'r thought she was going insane. Fidgeting slightly, she wondered where the voice came from, then finally she realized that it was the alien that was talking to her.

”We will preserve you, so that our Great Mother can feast on your flesh and absorb the very power from you.”

The voice continued to resonate through her head, and she blinked, opening her eyes only to meet the darkness of the creature's hand.

”I am a Queen, not a dish served for disgusting creatures such as yourself.”

Komand'r thought, wondering if the creature could read her thoughts just as easily as it could invade her mind.

”Ah, it still speaks... you truly are a warrior... fit for a delectable feast.”

The creature responded. Komand'r could not help but hear the amusement it conveyed to her, obviously it was having fun with her, unaware of her anger, her frustration and her loathe for it. It continued to hold her, raising her higher as if she were some prize, some medal for them.

”Unhand me, you vermin.”

Her thoughts were very crisp and clear. Each syllable pronoucned with such emphasis, it was a wonder as to how Komand'r was holding herself back.

”So we can allow you the chance to slaughter even more of our brothers and sisters? Flesh creature, we are not as stupid as you.”

The alien responded, it laughed after its statement leaving its voice to echo throughout her head as she flexed the muscles in her hands.

”You will refer to me as Queen Komand'r... and you are as stupid as you look.”

*SCReeeeeeHHkK!*

Violet energy burst straight through the alien's hand. It shrieked in pain as the sheering hot energy ate away at its flesh and then impaled it directly through the forehead. Before falling to the ground, Komand'r regained her composure, and hovered in the air, her violet solar energy exiting through both eyes and tearing the creature apart, bit by bit. Altering her target, Komand'r began to rise higher and higher into the air releasing the power beam of solar energy from her eyes and onto every alien that was in sight. As she tore straight through them, she caught a glimpse of some aliens receding and backing away from the current war zone. They moved quickly straight out of her line of fire and disappearing behind buildings or into the distance.

When everything around her was a heap of smoldering ash, Komand'r blinked, allowing her vision to return and bringing her hail of solar vision to an abrupt halt. Burned flesh filled her nostrils, and without her will, her body fell. Landing on one knee, Komand'r unclipped her long tattered cloak and allowed it to fly away with the breeze.

Breathing in and out heavily, Komand'r raised her head staring at the empty field around her and watching the ashes of the aliens lift up into the breeze and glide away. Raising her vision even higher, she stared at the two suns that hovered over the planet, her eyes closing as she absorbed the rays, recharging every cell in her body.

Hours, she had spent fighting these creatures on her own and using every bit of energy that she had left. It was exhausting her, and even though she was a solar battery, she could not keep fighting if she kept exerting the same amount of energy that was used to keep her going.

Screams from the distance echoed back to her, and Komand'r looked around, searching through the burned bodies and corpses for an easier way to rid of this threat. It was unfortunate that no answer lay before her. Allowing a second to composer herself, Komand'r closed her eyes preparing her body for yet another brutal fight. As she did so, she pondered the progression of the Kryptonian that she had left behind at least hours ago.

Kayla cocked her head to one side as the Tamaranian streaked skywards, calculating the different options the heroine had left her. She was unsure if she had translated the semi-barbarian tongue correctly, but the Queen was calling on her to be “resourceful.” In any event, she obviously recognized Kayla as Kryptonian, and had naturally felt confident leaving her in charge of the situation.

The creatures were beginning to gather again, en masse. Kayla perceived that this was an instinctive response to a given threat. The most resistance to their attack had come from this locale and therefore the creatures were mustering a host to deal with the danger. Like ants or bees, she hypothesized: threaten their objective and they would respond with instant and overwhelming force. If this was a hive culture, it followed that there would be some sort of central intelligence orchestrating the invasion – or, if her theory was correct, a more accurate term would be “colonization.” But, the truth of it was, she simply didn’t have the data to form any provable conclusion.

The facts that were currently presenting themselves were clear enough: the Queen Kommand’r had fled, leaving her to deal with the colonization force at large. It made sense; the Queen should be tending her tribe. If the invading creatures before were acting on instinct, they ought to concentrate their attack on Kayla, given that she was now the only threat in the location.

Kayla had to suppress a shudder of revulsion: the creatures were indeed vile, misshapen beasts that were an affront to decent eyes. Her microscopic vision scanned one then two then more of the beasts as they lumbered towards her – Kayla was taken aback. She had never seen this sort of molecular structure before – it defied the laws o the 28 known galaxies. At least, she thought, it did in this universe as far as she knew. Logic, then, would dictate that these monstrosities had somehow breached the veil between the universes – indeed, as her own father had done to send her here.

In any event, she had to deal with the threat somehow. There were, she realized, too many to fight. She could deal with ten...a hundred…perhaps even a thousand…maybe even more than that. But eventually, she would be overwhelmed. Despite the fact that Kayla considered her race was possessed of genetic perfection, she tempered it with a healthy dose of humility. No-one – not even she – was invincible.

Indeed.

Kayla started as the voice echoed in her head. She looked around, seeking the source.

Your initial assessment of Us was in error, Kryptonian. We are not insentient, and thus do not neatly fit the moral obfuscation that would serve your conscience. We will feast on your flesh to vindicate those you have slain. The Mother will absorb you, and your powers will greater serve the Hive. It is inevitable.

Kayla stumbled as the psionic messages buffeted her mind. She had killed: not knowingly, of course, but yet she had done so. The sickening realisation came that she would have to do so again if this planet was to survive nearly overwhelmed her. It was the one thing she had given her word to Kal-El that she would not do. Killing, he had said, can never be right. There are no mitigating circumstances.

She jetted skywards, away from the monsters, away from the worming intrusion of her mind. Hovering high of the Tamaranain landscape, she saw the bloody mosaic of destruction played out below her in stark relief.

Killing can never be right. There are no mitigating circumstances.

But if she did not act, a world would die. To stop an act of genocide, she must commit the act herself. An interesting conundrum. Could it be that these creatures were part of Universal natural selection – as such, they were simply fulfilling their logical progression and replacing creatures weaker than themselves. Conversely, she and Kommnd’r were in place, and therefore should serve to test the natural selection theory.

Her telescopic vision showed her that a vast number of the creatures were now converging on the area that she had been in. She must act now, or else they would disperse. But how to deal with them?

Faster than the speed of sound, Kayla screamed down from the stratosphere not stopping at ground level…she punctured deep into the very flesh of Tamaran, the scalpel that would cut out the invading cancer. She began to circle, faster and faster, hurling earth and sod around the vast mass of ravening beasts. A ditch and rampart began to form around them, effectively a quarantine made from Tamaranian soil. But the invaders were not, as she had once thought, acting only on blind instinct. They were intelligent and reactive. As she built, so they tore down.

It was a race.

Kayla willed herself on, muscles and tendons screaming in protest as she worked furiously to imprison the monsters. Higher the rampart rose, and the beasts crawled atop each other making a vile, writhing wall of flesh rending at their earthen confinement. But as many as they were, they could not defy the laws of gravity, and soon the walls grew beyond even their capacity to reach. This, Kayla knew, would only be a temporary solution. The could dig and burrow their way free – she had to act fast.

Now that her walls were in place, she began to fill in the prison from above. She felt the psionic jolt of fear from the mass below her. No creature, not matter how strong, how powerful, was immune from the fear of being buried alive. Kayla tried to close her mind to their thoughts as she worked, telling herself that this was the only logical way to deal with what could become a threat to the very galaxy. Theory was one thing: Dirtying her hands with tonnes and tonnes of earth, pouring it over and crushing a living mass of flesh was quite another.

When she was done, the newly made “mountain” seethed and writhed in anger as the thousands of beasts dug and clawed their way to freedom.

Kayla plunged deep, deep into the ground, burrowing far below the prison she had made. Deeper she dived, down to the very heart of the planet. She hurled her body into Tamaranian hell, stoking the fires of its fury. Then, she spun away, dragging magma from the bowels of the planet with her. Ballistics served her well, her spin dragging and intensifying the heat of the flames in her jet wash. And, like a bullet, she punched straight through the heart of her self-made mountain, trying to ignore the screams of the monsters that burned in her wake.

As she smashed through the summit the fire from the earth jetted brightly into the sky. Kayla acted fast, piling yet more earth atop it, sealing it shut. Like blood pumping through arteries, the fire of Tamaran spread through its earthen prison, devouring the flesh of the monsters that had sought to destroy its populace. She could, in her mind, feel the fury of the aliens turn to terror as they realised there was no escape. They would be burned to nothingness within their earthen prison, the incredible heat sealing their ashes forever in the newly made mountain.

She drifted away, trying to recover her strength, trying to blot out the guilt of what she had just done. She looked at the newly formed mountain, still hissing as though in satisfaction at having devoured the threat to its world. She wondered if this place would become some sort of monument if the Tamaranian people survived - a sick, morbid cathedral to their victory.

She flew back towards the main city, leaving the mountain in her wake. Lives had been taken. But there were still lives to be saved. She sought out the Queen Kommand'r so that they could co-ordinate their efforts with those of the Tamaranian forces.

The high palace of Tamaran was encased in a dome of violet energy constructed by Komand'r who had used every ounce of “love” that she had for her people to protect them from the horrors that lay outside the very castle's walls. Brisk footsteps carried Komand'r through the palace, through the crowds of fear stricken Tamaranians who all huddled with one another, speaking of the terrible creatures outside, mourning their lost ones or mumbling gibberish from the lack of belief of the situation.

She did not blame them for their actions. They were attacked in a moment of complete unawareness and defenselessness. Not given enough time to react or to even understand why they were being attacked by a hostile alien species. The entire situation called for so many complications however there was no time for Komand'r completely react to the entire even accordingly. Her top priority after all was to ensure the safety of her people and she had alreadly failed a good half of them.

Her fists clenched tightly as a group of soldiers quickly rushed past her, carrying on a medical bed a severely injured Tamaranian. Rubbing her temples she continued her walk, trying to think of where she would go from here.

Komand'r had retreated to the Palace when she found the overwhelming numbers of aliens totally unbearable. She knew that this battle by this point was completely onsided and unfortuantely even worse, potentially useless. The more she would kill, the more that would appear, and the results just seemed to only lead to disappointment.

Choosing to save who and what she could, Komand'r drew back, fighting off the remaining forces of the alien troops and returning to the palace to use the last of her power to create an impenetrable force field around her palace to protect the last of her people.

“Your highness.”

Major Kiest'r, whom Komand'r considered a miracle to still be alive rushed to her side as she continued to rush forward. Her brow quirked as she studied the grave expression on his face from the corner of her eye. He held very bad information and she knew that she could only take so much.

“We have a problem.”

Her heels clicked on the marble floor as she paused and let out a heavy sigh. Around her there were a low hush as every Tamaranian seemed to take notice of their Queen's hesitance and look upon her with great interest. When their leader was in doubt, they understood that all would be lost. This was not something that Komand'r wanted her people to see, and she knew that the news that Kiest'r bared would be too much for them.

“Not here.”

Komand'r muttered, lifting her hand and wagging her finger. This notion was immediately recognized by Kiest'r and he quickly followed after Komand'r as she brushed through the sea of people and made way for her personal chamber. Once they entered, Kiest'r shut the doors behind them and locked it. Turning he watched as the queen took a seat in a large chair and leaned forward her elbows placed on her knees and her chin rested on her hands which were clasped together. He could sense the tension within her as well as she the fatigue in her eyes as she stared at him, her eyes glazed over completely. Her mind was elsewhere so he waited for her to find herself .

“What is wrong now?”

Komand'r finally inquired after several moments of silent contemplation. Her lips pursed tightly as she finally directed her full attention upon Kiest'r and waited for him to throw down upon her a tidal wave of horrible news. Her eyes closed, allowing him to spill the news upon her.

“It's the aliens your highness... they're... they're finding ways to get into the palace.”

This immediately attracted her attention because Komand'r immediately looked opened her eyes and rose at full height in her seat. Her body leaned forward and body movement told Kiest'r that she was urging him to continue.

“A few soldiers spotted the aliens beginning to dig through the ground. We assume they are attempting to create an underground tunnel to get into the palace and by the looks of things they could break through the very floors in a matter of hours.”

Silence was his only response, his gaze shifted slightly and he looked out her window his eyes gazing through the violet barrier and at the sky before him. The moment reminded him of when Tamaran had been lost before, he wondered if it would happen again. If as a Tamaraninan he was doomed to relive the moment where his people and his planet was devoured by an evil and unstoppable force. He wondered if this time would be the same as the last, or if his Queen would find a way to save her people from this oncoming apocalypse.

Her chair shifted back, and Kiest'r looked up to see Komand'r rise and head for the balcony in her room. He watched as she opened a small hole in the dome that she created around the palace and began to rise off the balcony.

“Your Highness... where are you going?”

Kiest'r inquired ready to reach out and grab hold of his queen before she attempted to run away from the current problem at hand. He knew that Komand'r was certainly not the type, but people did have their breaking points and perhaps Komand'r had already reached her own.

“There is a solution to this.”

Komand'r began, rising slowly into the air. Her thoughts raced throughout her mind and she pushed aside any thought that reminded her of her pride. This situation did not call for any of that. If she wanted to save her people and if she wanted to save her planet she would have to put that aside. If her memory did not deceive her then she knew of one person that could help her. Or anybody with that very legacy could help.

“And I need to go find her.”

With that said, Komand'r burst forward in search of the Kryptonian that she had left behind. Together their awesome power could do some deadly damage to these aliens, Komand'r was very sure of that. And if they thought up a brilliant plan, then they could push these creatures off her planet for good.

It was a chilling reminder that even the mightiest of edifices could be toppled in moments. These creatures may not have been mindless, but their wanton acts of savagery and barbarism defied any logic. All around her, Kayla saw the rapid destruction of Tamaranian civilization: beautiful gardens crackling in flames, great buildings collapsing in plumes of dust and debris, the very earth itself trembling as it vomited forth yet more of the alien creatures.

The Tamaranian people’s own savage instinct had been brought forth by this attack upon them. They fought a valiant but losing battle against both the foe…and each other. They knew that this was a fight not for the winning or the losing but for their very survival. As such, the slower and the weaker were left to fend for themselves, trampled down by their fitter kin as they fought – or fled – for survival. It was natural selection in bloody relief.

For every one person she saved, Kayla knew that ten more would die. This then, was what it was to be one of the immortals: speak to any “normal” person on the subject of the super-heroes in their midst and they would either respond with awe and reverence or outright jealousy and mistrust. But none of them knew what it was like: to realise that – no matter what you did – you couldn’t be everywhere and save everyone. Kayla routinely counted herself blessed that she was hampered by the sentimentality and guilt that Kal-El felt. It must, she reasoned, be almost intolerable. But even for her, to hand one child to grateful parents only to turn and see another cut down by the invaders was heart-wrenching.

And even with her genetic superiority, she was beginning to feel the pace. There were foes without number, disasters without end. She had long since past the stage of analysing whether killing these creatures was right or wrong – it was simply a necessity. She stooped to pull away a fallen column, freeing a gaggle of Tamarainians from a burning building. They flowed around her like a tide, screaming in panic as the flames licked their backs. Even as the last one reached safety, the building began to come down around her. Kayla sucked in air, starving the fire, but even so the structure was spent. With a groan, it collapsed in a cloud of choking dust and debris.

Kayla did not even have time to draw breath before a creature leaped out of the settling rubble at her, taloned hands reaching for her throat. Her fingers clamped around its forearms in a vice-like grip, but she was forced to twist her head aside as it sought to bite at her face. She prided herself on not having equivalent human emotion but she felt at spike of anger and her heat vision ripped forth, incinerating the beast. It came apart as ashes in her hands.

As it did so, another crashed into her, its iron-hard shoulder smashing into her ribs. So violent was the impact that it lifted her from her feet. The creatures seemed to be growing in strength! The two rolled over and over in still seething ashes, the monster rending and tearing at her invulnerable flesh. Kayla heaved it away, but was shocked to see that it did not fly far from her. The claws in its feet dug into the earth, slowing it. It howled, a bestial almost agonised roar and leapt at her. Kayla responded in kind, flying as fast as she dared into the monster’s path. The impact exploded, shattering any nearby windows that were still in place.

The creature lay prostrate, an obscene empty bag of glistening flesh: the collision had been so violent that it had shattered ever bone in its skeleton and turned whatever internal organs it had in to mush.

Time began to slow for Kayla Jor-El: as before, the aliens had calibrated her location and were now hurling their strongest warrior at her. Mercifully, their attention on her was allowing the citizens to flee and what remained of the Tamaranian civil services to aid them. But there were so many creatures now that their sheer numbers were beginning to overwhelm her.

She looked around in the midst of battle to see if any Tamaranians were still present, but now she alone with creatures in the centre of the city. As she turned her attention back, one of them smashed its fist into her face, snapping her head back and sending her flying into a library building. It exploded with the force, and Kayla was forced to squeeze her eyes tight shut and shake her head – impossibly, she was dazed by the blow. She had worked ceaselessly, survived the cumulative impact of explosions that must have equated to much more than a nuclear blast. This coupled with the continued use of her heat vision must have weakened her more than she knew.

And she had been holding back, unable to unleash the full limit of the power at her disposal – this in itself was tiring, a constant draining tension that sapped the strength. Now, the civilians were gone. Now she would visit upon the invader such destruction that it would flee back to which ever dark place it came from.

There was no “battle exultation” in her mind, no blinding fury. She had once read that “war is work.” This, she realised, was the truth of it. With speed that cracked the sky, she flew into the ravening mass of invaders, smashing bones and rending limbs. The sounds of their screams would remain with her to the end of her days. For the second time, she felt their emotions turn from triumph to desperate fear as she tore into their ranks. Their advance cease, and turned from slow retreat into desperate flight. But she would not now let them escape. She screamed skywards, over the screaming mob, heading them off. Using the piles of ruined buildings, she used her almost limitless speed to build first one wall…then another, and then another, effectively sealing off the aliens in an arena. Into this she flew, and the slaughter continued. It could not have lasted long, but the images of her own savagery were burned indelibly on her mind. Her last blow smashed into the chest cavity of the final beast, its acidic blood exploding all around her, hissing on the rubble.

She looked around, wild eyed, fist drawn back.

But there was nothing. She stood, coated in filth and viscera, her cloak shredded to rags. Her face felt wet, and she touched her cheek: her fingers came away red with her blood. It was not the first time she had seen it, but the sight of it was sickening, reminding her of the awful battle with Doomsday. The battle that killed her. What was it they said… “if you bleed, you can die…”

“No.” she spoke aloud. She would not allow herself to wallow in despair. That was for lesser beings than her. The Kryptonian was the greatest of universal creations, and she believed that Krypton had died to preserve the universal balance. Those scions that remained were almost gods. She would not die her.

An electrical crackle jolted her. She looked in the direction of the Royal Palace to see an energy field spring up around it. Her telescopic vision revealed that Kommand’rs forces had shepherded what survivors they could into the confines of the energy field. It was logical then, that like herself, the Queen would not be free to bring her full power to the battle.

Kayla rose in flight, wondering if those angels in the Christian bible had visited more destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah that that which she now witnessed from above.

Every piece of her was torn apart deep inside of her as she beheld the sight of what she had once considered to be a glorious empire. Under her rule, Tamaran had restored to its former glory after she had salvaged a new home planet for them. Under her command she created strong and resilient warriors who fought for the pride and devotion of their people. Under her leadership she created a nationalistic feeling within the people making them all proud members of such a (what she saw) superior race. To see toppled buildings, crumbling homes, and streets paved with utter destruction almost brought tears to Komand'r's eyes, but the proud queen refused to let the very expression of her sorrow show. She had to remain her calm and composed demeanor, either wise if anyone saw her in her moment of weakness, during her moment of complete vulnerability then it would mean the very end of Tamaran.

Holding her head high, she blocked from her view the sight of fresh corpses that were scattered on the floor beneath her. She did not need to add more to her heavy heart, for she already knew what lay beneath her. A reminder of her failure to protect her people, an image of what Tamaran could become and the reality that she was losing this battle.

Her body rose higher and higher into the air, allowing her to break through pink clouds and almost penetrate the planet's atmosphere to release herself into space. Komand'r stopped however, opening her eyes and looking down at her planet, at her pride and joy, and the beauty that was Tamaran. It was funny, years ago she had hated her people, despised the Tamaranians for shunning her and for ostracizing her because she was born a defect. Yet here she was today, fighting with all her heart to make sure that they would see tomorrow. She was one to hold grudges, but when given the opportunity to redeem herself, Komand'r was quite compassionate in a dominating sort of way.

Taking in a final breathe, she turned in the air and dove straight down towards the planet. Her body shot forward, arms at her sides and eyes open wide searching for the Kryptonian. She twirled around for a moment until finally she could see in the distance a faint figure rising in the air. Not waiting to confirm her sighting she burst forward with amazing speed and flew like a bullet to meet with the Kryptonian.

“You. Kryptonian.”

Komand'r's rather blunt address was supposed to attract the attention of Kayla.

“You held yourself up pretty well so far. Not that it's a surprise.”

She studied the woman for a moment, her warrior like poise and determined look in her eyes reminding Komand'r of her own pride and spirit that burned as an everlasting flame within her. At least she would be working with someone who possessed just as much valor as she, she however expected nothing more from a Kryptonian. As she understood they were a powerful race who despite their loss of an entire planet still retained their superiority in the little numbers that they managed to sustain.

“I would thank you for your help, but there are more pressing matters at hand. Both you and I recognize that our brutality will not outmatch their plenitude... and that is a problem.”

Komand'r turned in the air, crossing her hands over her chest as she stared down at the aliens who were looking up at her and Kayla. They knew full well that they could not reach them, but they waited, predators awaiting the fall of their victims so they could devour them in their moment of weakness.

“I have created a final strong hold at my high palace... a final resort for my people. But... it will not last and even with all my power I will not be able to fight off theses putrid creatures.”

She breathed in deeply, finding it very hard for her to express her final defeat to what was to her a complete stranger. Komand'r recognized her helpless position, but she was not so helpless that she could not take some form of action. No, so long as there was breathe within her body the mighty Queen would use every ounce of her strength to stave off this threat. No matter what the expense was. She had already lost half of her populace, what more could these abominations take away from her?

“My top scientists are attempting to work on methods to exterminate these pests on a larger scale. I come to you in hopes of seeking a solution to stopping these things from coming back to Tamaran.”

It took a lot from within for Komand'r to utter the very words. The idea that she was coming to someone, seeking the approval of someone for aid in her own planet's protection scarred her deeply within. However just this once, she was willing to take control and ensure that her hubris did not hinder any potential survival of her planet.

“As I've learned from my battles with these creatures they travel through wormholes an appear when their current numbers begin to dwindle beyond their control. You and I should take charge and find a way to control their numbers, to keep their own population at a decreasing level... the only problem is... I have no particular method for that resolve.”

Her outreach ended there, and Komand'r finally hovered in silence awaiting the response of Kayla. The high queen could not read the pensive look on Kayla's face and therefore was left with both the dread of her rejection toward being of assistance as well as the satisfaction of increasing her own numbers and having an actual plan on her end.

Regardless of the answer, Komand'r could feel the very sands of time slip from her as she was reminded that time waited for no man, and that the aliens' savagery was not going to be stopped by an energy field erected by a queen for the love of her people.

She was almost too beautiful. Even if the Tamaranian was her genetic inferior, Kayla could appreciate the aesthetic perfection of the Queen Kommand’r. Her physical flawlessness was at odds with the scene of absolute devastation over which she surveyed.

The report that the Tamaranian monarch gave provided much needed data that Kayla had not previously been aware of. Inwardly, she chastised herself for not having considered all of the variables, but conversely in a multiverse of infinite possibilities, not even a Kryptonian could answer all eventualities.

‘Wormholes, Your Majesty,’ Kayla said. She paused a moment, calculations racing through her brain. ‘It takes a tremendous amount of energy for a wormhole to form. Indeed, these are – in the natural multiverse – cosmic accidents. Of course, these effects could be artificially replicated. If the impossible is eliminated – i.e. that these aliens are simply capitalizing on random wormholes – then the remaining theory – no matter how improbable must be true. They are then using some variant of the New Genesian Boomtube technology – but on a vast scale. A boomtube is a self-sufficient unit – small and man-portable. It does not allow for seemingly innumerable transfers…’ she swept her arm towards the devastation below, ‘as we have witnessed here. No… there must be a single source of power. A Master/Slave system.’

Kayla lapsed into silence as she calculated. The creatures had a hive mentality – that much was obvious. Logic then would dictate that their wormholes were based on this foundation.

A hive born of a hive.

There must be technology involved – if these creatures could summon wormholes at will, then this “battle” would not have been fought. They would be so far in advance of anything in this universe that they would render any challenge impotent. No –there was science here. They were able to co-ordinate their attacks, which suggested their artificially created wormholes were a network – they were joined – as the hive mind was joined.

If the connection was broken, cohesion would be lost.

If one combined science with tactical knowledge – the aliens relied on overwhelming assault to crush their target. No thought had been given to counter attack. It was the flaw in the alien strategy. Their all out assault approach either had not considered…or hoped to conceal…their major weakness.

Swiftly, using such language as she thought the Queen could comprehend, she outlined her theory. ‘The issue is that a wormhole is not, in Terran terminology, a two-way street. We must initiate a reverse/traverse approach. Conisder. A wormhole begins to form. We – you and I – must turn it inside out, travel through, destroy a network node which will result in the utter collapse of alien cohesion. It is my opinion that it will take time for all the wormholes to collapse. This being the case, we can return through a different wormhole to our own…reality.

‘As the current tactical situation dictates, the aliens must send more forces against Tamaran. We have routed them thus far. You and I must seek out the new wormhole they are sure to try and open to overwhelm us. It is my opinion that I can reverse the gravitational force that they can create. As you know, I am Kryptonian and our superior genetics will allow such a feat. Your own inherent gifts in the transmutation of energy will – if concentrated in my wake – should cause an overload, in effect turning their wormhole inside out. Our Gateway.

‘In other words – when they come, I shall spin their wormhole, you will overload it, and we will fly through, take out a supporting node, and return through another hole before the entire network collapses. I think that is clear enough, Your Majesty.’

It would not sit well, she knew. This was a proud Queen, a Queen who had led her people in the face of adversity, a Queen independent. They both would know that Kayla Jor-El was right, but it served no-one to be impolitic. If there was one thing that her excruciating term as ambassador had taught her, it was diplomacy. ‘I am eager to hear your alternatives, Your Majesty,’ she finished.

The queen listened intently brushing said all ego and pride understanding that more lay on the line here than her own nobility here. She was well aware of Kryptonians, aware of their legacy, aware of their abilities and most importantly that anyone who donned the red "S" was capable and took the responsibility to save other worlds. She was sure of her new found decision and knew that it would take more than just she was not possible. Komand'r had attempted to singlehandedly save her own planet, but ultimately failed, forced to leave smoldering ash and particles of what was one Tamaran behind.

There was much to take in from the Kryptonian, but it was not all gibberish. Komand'r got the jist of the resolve that Kayla had recited to her. They were basically charged with the responsibility of destroying whatever was coming through the wormhole with the wormhole. A rather ironic solution but with the brilliance of Kayla and the tactician from Komand'r the idea itself did not seem impossible.

Her thoughts dwelled on the idea; if Kayla could reverse the wormhole and she could muster enough power to blast into the self made reverse wormhole, then they would effectively be able to destroy many if not all of the alien forces on the other end. If they were lucky they would be able to destroy an oncoming fleet or even better an entire planet of these things. It all banked on Kayla's aid as well as Komand'r's ability to summon such a destructive force.

With clear understanding of the plan, the circumstances and factors required carrying it through; Komand'r knew that the time to take action, to make a final stand had come.

"I have no objections to your resolve whatsoever."

Komand'r began, hands on her hips as she spoke to Kayla, here eyes meeting hers and her overall mannerism treating the Kryptopnian as her equal in terms of noble and personal standards.

"I came to you seeking a solution and you have given me just that."

The Tamaran queen continued, hands on her hips.

"If that is all that is part of your plan, then there nothing more left for us to do but manage a way to create a wormhole."

She paused turning to the high palace a look of disdain stained across her face as she gazed at the alien pestilence who were still attempting to dig their way into the palace, they were not failing in their attempts that was the disappointing part.

". . . And I know just how to do that."

Komand'r said with a deadly smirk on her face. With newfound confidence, she immediately burst forward with uncanny speed toward the group of ravenous aliens. Charging at near light speed, she gained on them and then using the stored energy in her power crystal, created a spear tipped barrier around her. Flying forward with extreme precision she aimed to tear through each alien surrounded by a burning inferno sure to leave a path of fire behind. A long streak of violet enflamed energy trailed behind her and in a second, she made contact.

She pierced through the first alien immediately setting it in flames. Not hesitating Komand'r burned straight through a straight row of aliens leaving behind a path of torched bodies that flailed wildly only to be incinerated into nothing but ash. The creatures turned their attention to her finding the opposition as their new prey and as a problem toward their attempt at a global conquest. Streaking past her was Kayla who had no doubt caught onto her plan of action and who was already tearing through the massive groups of aliens also summoning what power she had to bring forth total destruction just as Komand'r had.

The strategy was quite simple. As Komand'r had mentioned before, the wormholes would appear when there was a significant decrease in the alien's current population on the planet. So basically all they had to do was kill off a good deal of them and await the opening of a wormhole. It would be arduous work but all victories required it. After all if there was a battle, there would be a war and any cost Komand'r was willing to win this seemingly never ending war.

Her valor was clearly evident as she continued her onslaught. Bones cracking, muscles threatening to tear apart and nerves screaming in agony, Komand'r ignored it all hearing only the sound of her heart beating and her warrior spirit crying out, shouting to the great goddess X'Hal that I am worthy, I am mighty, I am Queen Komand'r of the proud Tamaranian people and I will ensure that they will live to see tomorrow and the next day and the many days thereafter!.

Her mad onslaught continued and with the combined efforts and help of Kayla her Kryptoninan ally, the two worked seamlessly to bring down the alien forces. Clear intent and obligation pushed them through the crowds and crowds of bodies until finally, they stopped unable to keep the fight going. Needing to take a small breath of air, needing nothing more than just a moment to shake the violence out of their systems and once again become aware of their surroundings.

Fire and flesh lay strewn out before her and Komand’r faltered slightly, her movements in the air becoming slightly unbalanced as her vision became unfocused and her mind began to register the fatigue in her body.

Despite this, she fought it, rising higher and higher into the air searching for any more of her opponents that dare to arise from the ash and challenger her once again. One did, its distorted face lifting upwards, its mouth, or whatever was left of it agape as it snared at her.

Without hesitation, the queen unleashed a furious bolt of starbolt energy from her eyes and finished off what remained of the horrible creature. She was ready to be finished, ready to be done with this chaos, ready to win this battle.

Breathing in and out heavily she searched, her violet eyes looking for what she had originally sought from the beginning of this battle. Below her Kayla was finishing off her own army of aliens and then when the last one fell, she finally saw it and the newfound hope that she had originally had from the beginning of this battle returned to her.

“THERE!”

Komand’r called out seeing the familiar out of place spark in the sky. It was several miles away, but they could make it, she had no doubt about that. Looking down at Kayla who had already acknowledged her out cry, she burst forward her eyes locked onto the spark of light that began to expand and then finally formed into a small swirling flash of light. She willed her body to fly faster and faster and then beneath her she saw a red blur which she already knew was Kayla.

Now a mere blur in the sky, the Kryptonian streamed forward, Tamaranian Queen right behind her, prepared to finish off what they had started. While approaching, Komand’r began to pull strength from the suns around her, harvesting the power from within, and preparing to create one of the greatest energy blasts ever.

If concentrated and if she had enough energy, her destructive power could equate to that, that was capable of destroying an entire world. If she pushed herself, willed herself, and gave it her all, then Komand’r would be able to pull off the same feat. Nearing the wormhole, she watched Kayla finally arrive at it, initiating her part of the plan.

”Lend me your strength X’Hal, garnish me with your power for I need it to perform a final act that could save my people.”

Komand’r breathed in and out slowly, her breathing completely under control as her entire body became illuminated by the collective energy within her. She soared through the sky, now a being of a luminous violet light.

Impressive. Most impressive.

Kayla’s estimation of the warrior queen grew ever more as the logic of her stratagem became apparent. Exterminating all of the alien contagion in this area had resulted in them compensating by opening another wormhole.

The air around her rent and screamed in protest as she rocketed skywards as fast as she dared in this atmosphere. The truth of it was she was now about to attempt the scientific method – the systematic approach to observing phenomena, drawing conclusions and testing hypotheses – on her own body. Whilst the theory was sound, Kayla had only been taxed to the limit of her capability once before – and that had been against Doomsday itself. Still, even more lives were at stake here than when the monster had rampaged through the Metropolis of her own dimension.

Kayla sped towards the wormhole, tracking its rotation and calculating her optimum approach velocity. This done, she hurtled towards it, intent on reversing the rotation of the fissure.

The Coriolis effect of the forming mass smashed her off kilter as soon as she got near, causing her once-fluid flight-line to judder and falter as she was almost hurled away. Kayla gritted her teeth and forced herself back on course. The effort was draining – incredibly so – even with her Kryptonian physiology. Kayla realized that even if the Kryptonian was the absolute peak of genetic perfection, she was dealing with cosmic forces here. No physical shell was designed to deal with such stresses, even one her own.

She pushed on, eyes tight shut, teeth gritted as she pitched her might and her will against the spinning behemoth. Light exploded beneath her, and she realized that Kommand’r was now applying her own force to the wormhole. As she did so, Kayla felt the gravitational chains that had been slowing her progress slacken minutely. In response she increased her speed, and as she did so, Kommand’r added more energy to the crackling centre of the wormhole.

Kayla flew faster now – faster than she had ever flown before. Reality began to warp around her, slamming her already fractured sense of equilibrium. Then, with sickening suddenness, the Coriolis effect vanished, replaced instead by an irresistible suction. Kayla had no time to adjust her speed or trajectory. Helpless, she was dragged into the wormhole.

As she was pitched into the infinite darkness, she realized that they had succeeded. Now all that remained was to see if Kryptonian physiology was actually as invulnerable as she believed…
