Priorities.

It was a concept that many failed to grasp, no social group was exempt from it, not even the Superhero Community. It was a concept that a significant portion of the Human Race was simply unable to except, a simple and undeniable truth. Everything was a matter of priorities. Even when it came to saving lives. It was a truth that stemmed directly from a second truth, regardless of how powerful one was, no-one could do everything, no-one could save the entire world.

Not even the JLA.

But then, that was why the JLA did not stand alone.

Captain Comet sat alone at the center of the JLA monitor room, his imposing form unmoving; his hands steeped beneath his chin, his sky blue eyes gazed coldly outwards from beneath a heavy set brow.

All around him the systems of the Hall did its utmost to fill his eyes, ears and mind with as much visual and audio news as it possibly could. It had been only a few short hours since the aliens made their appearance on earth, and the League was doing everything in their power to stop the invaders.

Even with all their might, people were still dying. The screams and fears of the Human Race invaded Comet’s psychic mind. He had to forcibly close his mind to keep from going insane. There were disasters that stretched from one end of the world to the other. The League was not simply trying to stop an alien invasion, but also deal with the consequences of fear and the Armageddon syndrome that was spreading rapidly. News of atrocities being committed in the name of God or simple greed arose from every continent, one crisis after another, all demanding attention.

Comet had initially been out there in the thick of things when it all started. He had been working at Seattle, in S.T.A.R. Labs, his city... He detected the energy from their wormholes almost instantly, and he had left his lab to do a little detective work. When he saw what was happening, he immediately put out a call to the League, and began working on repelling the invaders.

It didn’t take long for the League to realize that this wasn’t a city-wide invasion, but a worldwide invasion. The League didn’t come together, but stayed in their respective cities; Batman was in Gotham, the Flash was in Keystone city, and Comet had elected to stay in Seattle.

After only a few hours, Comet’s deductive reasoning came to the conclusion that what they were doing was not enough. Calculating the odds of how many alien invaders there were, and how fast the League could dispatch of them; the results put humanity at a critical loss.

More needed to be done. Priorities had to be set.

Comet knew it, and he could tell that Batman, one of the most brilliant humans on the planet, was also coming to the same conclusion.

So Comet had left Seattle, appearing in the Hall and trying to look at the events on a grander scale. He needed to find a solution to their problem, or at least an option that didn’t leave so many people dead. He could tell some of the League members didn’t agree with his actions; they felt he should be out there trying to stop the aliens from taking more lives. They didn’t understand priorities on the larger scale.

Just 30 minutes earlier, Comet had spoken with Lois Lane, the star reporter from the Daily Planet. A thought crossed Comet’s mind that he had never visited her about the disappearance of her husband. She was asking him about the invasion and what the League was doing about it.

"This attack is unlike anything we have seen before. We urge the citizens of the earth to do their best to hide from these creatures. The Justice League, along with all other heroes of earth, are doing as much as they can to repel the attack.”

The words he had spoken to her were not very comforting; they didn’t have a lot of hope in them, but right now, there wasn’t much hope to give. Again, the atrocities of the globe filled his senses, and he just shook his head. They couldn’t save them all.

It was perhaps cold, it was perhaps harsh, it was perhaps entirely unfair, but the truth was the truth, priorities were priorities. The JLA could not save every man, woman and child that needed saving.

Of course, it was not as though Captain Comet simply ignored these cries for help, it simply meant he couldn’t act on them himself. But as previously stated, the JLA did not stand alone. Even in his motionless state, the advanced mind of Comet was relaying mental commands to the various systems throughout the Hall. The news he received was being transmitted back out to the rest of the world, allies, friend’s, family, many of them were being called to arms, and many were being summoned to act on the Leagues behalf.

Not only was Comet relaying information, he was also taking it in. He was connected to all the League members and he was analyzing all the information they gave him about the creatures. They were looking for any clues that could help them in this dire situation.

’From all the field reports, this is what we know: At approximately 9:04 am EST, wormholes began appearing all over the earth. Alien creatures of unknown origin came through the wormholes and immediately began killing all life they encountered.’

All across the globe, League members, active and reserve, listened intently ask Comet spoke telepathically to their minds.

’The alien creatures heal at accelerated rates, including the ability to regenerate lost limbs. They possess super strength, easily capable of tossing vehicles and punching holes through steel. They have extremely durable exteriors; reports have seen them survive small and large caliber weapons, RPGs, and some reports of surviving small missile fire. There has been no sign of them using any form of technology and no one has any idea of their origin.’

Comet considered the information that he had learned about them while fighting, as he had already relayed everything he had learned from League members.

’I noticed something strange every time one of the creatures would kill; the life-force of the victim would be absorbed into the alien creature and slowly dissipate after a few moments. I have yet to determine what this means. It could be that they are feeding off the life-force, but something doesn’t seem right about that.’

Comet knew his comment might cause some of the religious members of the League to become frightened, after all, he basically just told them these alien creatures were sucking the souls from their victims… but right now he just needed to have all the facts on the table.

’Does anyone else have anything else to add that has been seen or observed about the creatures?’

((This is where we, as the League, can talk from our respective cities. Just describe what you’re doing, as well as any information you want to add about the aliens. We still haven’t had anyone describe the biogenic field that allows them to cut anything, the cells that eat away at flesh when they cut you, and how they dissolve when killed. Oh, also their adaptive abilities.))

"Well this is your daily update on anything and everything related to the Flash. Now I know this is a restricted line for us JLA members, but lets just say if their is any of you heroes out there not too busy saving the world I could use a hand."

The Flash spoke into his JLA communicator as he ran by some more people pulling them away from some aliens. He was ducking and dodging all that he could. This was not a good situation for any hero to be in by himself.

This is when all of Comet's information started to come over the JLA communicator. Everything he had mentioned was the same as the Flash was noticing. They were really tough and extremely durable. They healed really fast after Wally did a little bit of damage. Even the soul reaping was noticeable at this point. Everything was going from bad to worse.

"Hey Captain Comet, I would like to throw some of my observations. I was attacking a few of them earlier with my infinity punches. After I seemed to have beat one I moved onto the next, but the previous one got up like I did not hurt him. This is where it got weird, the one I used my Infinity punch on was immune to my high speed punches the next round. I do not what they can do as far as attacks I am moving too fast for them to touch me, but this is getting ridiculous..."

The Flash probably was not giving any information of value, but he had to try. He had only been back on the JLA for a little bit now and needed to show he was ready to be back in action. Though this job was beginning to look too tough for even the Fastest man alive.

Everyone was dying.......

Returning to Earth from New Genesis, Orion had no idea that the planet was under attack. Soaring through the skies of Metropolis, he could watch the mayhem of it all. The worst part was that there was too many of these THINGS for him to handle alone. He had no idea where Batman was, and innocent people were being killed by the second! He had to act.

Maybe he could use the Astro Force of his harness to kill all of them.

No. That would put too many innocent people in danger

Fight them on foot?

You don't know there strength level and whether or not you would be a match for one! Besides if you went on foot alone, they would most likely overwhelm you!

What do I do? What do I do?!

As the silent New God thought to himself in the sky, he saw, from right under him one of the invaders trying to take a mother's newborn baby.

By the Gods! I can't just stay up here and do nothing!

As soon as he saw that, Orion leaped off his Astro Harness and flew one way. Down. Charging into the invader, Orion tackled him into the Earth, giving that mother a chance to escape. The invader, silent and dangerous just look at Orion as he lay on top of him. Orion's punches were having no effect.

Why won't you die??, Orion thought to himself.

Suddenly, amid st the chaotic punches of Orion, the hand of the invader grappled Orion's left foot.

Oh, no!

Picking him up, the invader flings Orion to-wards the closest building. Crashing into it, his weight was just heavy enough to bring the whole building down on him.

Crash!

Pushing himself from out of the rubble, Orion called his Asrto Harness to him. Getting on it, he fled the scene.

Where's Batman? I have to find someone other than myself to fight these things. If Gotham and Metropolis are both under attack, then there's no doubt that the whole planet is under attack!

Racing on his Astro Harness, in search of heroes, Orion could only hope that not all hope was lost..................

The Flash was rattled from what had just happened to him. He had to call Captain Comet and fast. Creating distance between him and the aliens. Making it out to a hill away from the city the Flash need to get some air, he was exhausted from all the top speed running. Touching his JLA communicator the Flash called Captain Comet.

"CC come in, something freaking is happening around here. I just was just on another trip through the maze of aliens when I was tripped. They surrounded me. So I did the only thing I knew how to do, run. So I began to vibrate as fast as I could. That's when the aliens began to make some strange noise, almost as if they were screaming in pain. They were grabbing their heads like they were in pain, though I was just trying to vibrate fast enough to get past them.

The Flash rushed his communication to Captain Comet as he gathered his breathe. The destruction was in the distance. The battles between Captain Marvel, Streak, Orion, and the aliens was just getting more intense. Wally was exhausted to no end, this was crazy.

Comet’s open question to the League went unanswered for many minutes. Comet, being connected to them all on a telepathic level, knew that each was preoccupied with saving lives. Many were fighting for their own lives as well.

The Bat Family was having an extremely tough time, since the creatures were basically impervious to normal weapons. The gang was trying all sorts of various weapons and instruments in an attempt to find a weakness.

Comet listened; his mind was actively listening to every engagement with the alien creatures. He hoped that if he pieced together tidbits from around the world, he might be able to come up with something to defeat them.

Batman’s thoughts came to the front.

“We're dealing with some extraterrestrial force here.”

“They have regenerative abilities. Reactive adapative abilities, and they can put up a good fight. This isn't... going to be easy.”

“We need to find a weak spot.”

'Because all natural things have one. And there's no doubt that these creatures have a vulnerable part of their bodies. Possibly an artery, or a tender spot beneath their boned armor.'

“Every one of them has one... we just need to find it.”

Batman was correct; a weakness was needed, something that any normal human adult could exploit. If they could find such a weakness, then the vast numbers of aliens could be dealt with rather quickly.

Right now, there were only a hundred or so heroes fighting the creatures, and about 5 billion humans running away. If they had a weakness to exploit, then the human’s of earth could take the fight to the creatures.

Batgirl and Oracle’s conversation filled Comet’s mind.

“Physically they're--- invulnerable.”

"No, if Superman was he he'd probably be able to physically defeat these guys."

"I'm not Superman."

"They have 0% fighting skill."

This only reemphasized Comet’s point. If they found a weakness that any human could use, then they would have a fighting chance against the creatures. They didn’t have any real skill, and didn’t fight with any real tactics.

"Where are they coming from?"

Oracle’s question was relevant, but it wasn’t something they could focus on now. Comet’s communicator beeped, and the Flash’s voice burst out of the transmitter.

Comet sat up in his seat. This was the first time that anyone had reported the aliens in pain. Better yet, sound vibrations were something that could be relatively easily replicated.

’Batman… the Flash may have found a weakness against the creatures. I need you and your allies to use as many sonic weapons against the creatures as possible. Try various frequencies, levels of amplitude, and such. Monitor the results and repeated effects.’

Comet sat back again, hoping that this was the hope the earth needed.

((Batman and his aides will use various explosives and sonic blasts.... they at first just 'stun' the creatures, and annoy them, but as they get higher, they see damage being done with small amounts of blood coming from their ears.

Eventually, Batman will conclude that a high enough frequency will kill them. We will have to build and test this weapon.

We will also 'capture' a few creatures to bring as well, so we can test the weapons on them, perfecting it.))

In her mind she knew she wasn't ready for this...but she'd be damned if it would slow her down or make her take a step back. Her body and spirit were screaming never surrender. Dinah Laurel Lance, formerly known as Siren, currently known once again as the Black Canary, was always the determined type. The old Black Canary might have been pasted by now against such a powerful invasion force like the one she found herself up against upon her return to Metropolis.

It had been only a little less than 2 weeks since Dinah had been rescued from the hellish fire pits of Apokolips by a combined effort of the JLA, Tribunal, and The Teen Titans. Thanks to the combined effort of Captain Comet and the Martian Manhunter, her mind was completely restored, and this Pretty Bird could spread her wings once more as the heroine known and loved by her colleagues that she's always been...mostly...excerpt for the fact that she now had superhuman strength, speed and agility, etc etc etc. And she still had a body that was barely distinguishable or recognizable compared to what she looked like before her 'death'. It was all understandably creepy, and Dinah had spent the better part of 2 weeks trying to wrap her mind the fact that for all intents and purposes, she was physically equivalent still to the Female Furies. A slight margin above them actually, seeing as how she was their former field leader.

One day...one day soon hopefully, she would have to find the time to hang with Orion and do the Emo jive...but this was not the time. Duty called and despite the fact her brain cells were diametrically opposed, Dinah's greatest asset, what has always been her most potent asset...her heart and spirit, answered the challenge. Before she knew it, Dinah found herself in Metropolis. Despite how strange it felt to e back on Earth again after everything she'd experienced and learned on Apokolips, the needs of the many outweighed the needs of the one.

Punching left and right with all the righteous fury, strength and warrior's instincts she could muster, Siu Jerk Jai pounded blow after blow into as many aliens as she could reach for...and the pathetic gas bags....kept....coming....back for more. Each one she'd laid out failed to remain down for very long. Clearly, Dinah had either overestimated her enhanced abilities and powers or underestimated what she was up against.

Either, way it's irresistible force vs immovable object time. This is gonna be a long day.

Dinah grunted to herself as Comet's telepathic relay came through.

No....HNNNNF....kidding, Sherlock.

Dinah's breath gushed out of her lungs as one of the monstrosities backed her right up against, into and through a solid brick wall. Fortunately, except for a slight buzzing that faded in a hurry, Dinah was right back up and charging with a smashing right cross into the jaw of one of the beasties. She was getting just as good as she was giving. The only bad thing was, there were far more of them than there were of her.

Durable exteriors, super strength and accelerated healing. Fine. I'm thinking it's time to test their hearing. If this fails, back up would be good." Dinah mentally relayed back, leaping a few tall buildings in a single bound to make it look as though she were fleeing the scene and retreating. In reality, she just bought herself the few extra seconds she needed to suck up all the air she could grab, set her powerful jaws in place and....

"SKREEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

The Canary sang her song, landing on a rooftop and spinning back sharply on her heels, hoping an above average dose of sonic energy would put a dent in the aliens where brute strength had thus far failed.

It only took a few moments after issuing the request to Batman that Comet realized he couldn’t sit back anymore and just watch. He could do everything that he had been doing while out in the field, fighting these creatures. Batman and his cohorts would work on this weakness, and he could go save some lives while waiting.

A beam of light later, Comet hovered in downtown Metropolis. The city was eerily quiet; most of the population was in hiding, or they had been killed. That thought caused Comet to flex his fists and bursts of fire erupted from them.

Then from around the corner came an alien creature. It stopped and looked up at Comet hovering in the air.

Comet focused on it, studying it.

It’s using some sort of telepathic communication, but it’s not a normal language. The telepathic messages are more instinctual than anything else… right now it’s basically communicating ”Prey”.

Comet’s assessment was true. The creature was communicating to its brethren that it had found prey. From the buildings around Comet, more creatures came out into the streets.

Because their communication is so low on the intelligence scale, there is no way to telepathically control them or even issue any sort of empathic command.

At least 8 creatures had entered the streets around Comet.

The energy field around them… it’s something that I’ve seen only on a few creatures in our galaxy. This is definitely unique though. I think it relates to their dimension… helping them survive in ours.

The creatures were getting closer and closer to Comet, who only seemed concerned with studying them.

*ZOOOON!*

One of the creatures in front of Comet fell over, apparently dead.

A psionic blast affects them… but let’s see if they can recover from it.

The other creatures were nearly in swiping distance when the creature on the ground that had been hit with the psionic blast began to stir.

Remarkable. Even being technically brain dead doesn’t stop their regenerative abilities. Evidently more physical damage must be done.

Two creatures had closed the distance to Comet. Both took swipes at him with their long arms and sharp claws.

*Swoosh*

The attacks seemed to stop a few inches from Comet’s suit, his telekinetic force field blocking the attacks.

Comet spread his arms our to his sides, his palms facing up… then closed his hands. As he did so, the 8 creatures around him erupted in fiery red flames. Not their entire bodies, but just their heads. Comet had agitated their molecules inside their brains and caused them to self combust. He had also increased the magnitude of the flame tenfold.

In a matter of moments each creature fell to the ground, its head completely incinerated. It was a quick and clean kill, for the flames also cauterized the wounds, stopping any blood from flowing out of the creatures.

“Let’s see if you heal from that….”

”Comet, I hope you see this, because I think we have something here. If you have the Black Canary on a link tell her to release a sonic scream that is over 30,000hz and at least 190 decibels. I think we found the weakness of these things.”

While one part of Comet’s brain had been focusing on the actions at hand, millions of other parts of his advanced Amalgam brain were focused on other tasks, one being that of the Dark Knight.

”I have been monitoring your progress Batman. The Bat signal was a good strategy… I will get in contact with Black Canary now and test your theory. If this works, we’ll need to come up with a quick design for a weapon and find a place to manufacture them… Does Wayne Enterprises have a facility capable?”

Comet already knew the response, but he didn’t want to force Batman to use his alter ego’s resources. He knew the Dark Knight kept his secret identity very secret… but Comet knew that this situation called for some drastic measures.

The 8 dead creatures around him began to disolve into pools of acidic blood.

So they can't recover without a brain...

Like a computer, Comet retrieved the part of his brain that had been focusing on Dinah Lance. She was fighting inside Metropolis as well, and was having as much difficulty as the Bat Family. While she had been enhanced on Apokalips, these creatures were still much stronger than her, and their adaptive abilities made them quite formidable.

Durable exteriors, super strength and accelerated healing. Fine. I'm thinking it's time to test their hearing. If this fails, back up would be good."

”Black Canary…”

"SKREEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Comet ‘looked’ through the eyes of Black Canary, witnessing the result of her sonic scream. Only one creature had been in her sights, but the effects were easily visible.

The creature took the concussive part of the blast fairly well, but the sonic sound caused the most effect. It immediately fell to its knees, attempting to put its clawed hands over its ear holes. It screamed in pain.

”As you just witnessed, the sonic part of your scream might be their weakness. Batman believes a high decibel frequency will cause more damage, and from studying this effect through your eyes, I believe he is correct. The sound is vibrating their inner ear, breaking down its brain tissue. Enough vibration and the tissue will completely breakdown, liquefying and killing the creature.”

“Can you attempt to elevate your scream to 30,000 hz and over 190 decibels? You should be capable of the feat now, due to your Apokaliptan enhancements.”

”Black Canary…”

Dinah heard Comet's summons half of a split second before she opened up and 'voiced' her opinions on this whole danmned invasion. If the attack had been centrally located on Metropolis and if the whole league had been here then perhaps she might have allowed herself the time to revel in this battle. As it was though, there were trouble spots all over the globe. She would have liked to put a few lessons of the past to use, mustered all the ki she could and stomped mudholes in each and every one of them before walking it dry. There just wasn't time. Every second she wasted was another innocent life gone to flowers, and Dinah had enough.

Hold that thought, Captain...

Dinah answered back, smiling from ear to ear, almost as if she enjoyed the pain she caused the monster. And really, who says she wasn't enjoying it as she drew back her right boot and sent this piece of garbage flying for a field goal, all the while trading punches with more incoming creatures, all of whom were apparently none too thrilled with seeing one of their numbers perish and were now hungry for 'Canary pancakes'.

"Ain't no thing!"

The once and still blond bombshell vowed, mentally relaying the affirnmative back to Captain Comet, already psyching herself up and preparing to cut loose. If the old Black Canary, meaning the one that existed before the enhancements and before her death, was nothing else, she was a strategist and was more capable of planning a few steps ahead than most people gave her credit for. At least a half dozen beasts were charging, attempting to pile on her now. With their extremely limited intelligence, they wouldn't figure out until it was too late, that was exactly what Dinah wanted.

"Just have to lure them in close and bait the hook. They'll never see it coming.

When they formed a pile, their lack of intelligence was matched only by their lack of speed. Easily dodging their charge with her superb agility and superhuman speed, she was standing on ready just waiting for them to realize they tackled nothing but air. And here it comes. Closing her eyes beneath the pile and making little effort to fight back with her fists, the war cry was unleashed with great measure, the veins in Dinah's neck tightened and bulged while the single most powerful Canary Cry she'd ever unleashed echoed for a distance Dinah couldn't even begin to calculate. Although she was sure she was capable of a sonic attack this strong, hell she was probably capable of turning it up even louder if she needed, this was the first time since sh received the increase in power from Apokolips that she'd actually tested it.

Once the creatures piled on top of her had fallen off, Dinah gathered her strength and leaped approximately 48 feet in mid-scream. Her throat was starting to scratch but she kept pouring it on until necessity forced her to stop and catch her breath. Turning around as her feet struck pavement and scoping the landscape, she bent over with her hands on her knees for only a few seconds before moving them to her hips and smiling.

"How do ya like me now, you crazy son's of b**ches?

Dinah questioned, of course referring to the monsters while waiting on Comet's response.

Comet rose into the air above the city. With the knowledge that the creatures could not regenerate without a brain, Comet began moving with a purpose. He flew above the streets, looking down to locate the alien creatures. Every time he found one, he reached out with his psychokinesis and scorched the heads from the inside out. Creatures began to fall below him as he flew throughout the city.

Watching through Canaries eyes, Comet was impressed with her new found abilities. Darkseid, or specifically Desaad, had increased her physical abilities. She was probably 10 times stronger and faster than a peak human, and that combined with her already world class martial skills, made her a lethal weapon.

Still, even with her enhanced durability, it was still no match for the creature’s strength. They could easily toss a train car and rend through steel, so her tactics involved weaving, dodging, spinning , and flipping through them like an acrobat.

In a moment she had roughly six of them around her, all trying to rend her in two. With a quick jump, she flew high into the air and aimed her sights, rather her vocals, below.

In the past, Canary had a scream that could reach just over 200 decibels, however it was still within a range than could be heard by human hearing. With her modified physical structure, she should be capable of a higher frequency, replicating a dog whistle, which reached around 25,000hz.

At 30,000Hz and 190 decibels, she would be creating a sound that could not be heard by humans. And with 190 decibels, the sound would have a shockwave to it as well. A decibel is simply a way to describe the intensity of a sound. It is logarithmic in scale, meaning 1 point was approximately 26% more intense. While sound is normally considered something we hear, it can also be felt. Just like you feel the bass at a concert, or the roar of jet, sound can be felt.

For normal humans, pain begins at around 140 decibels. At 152 decibels, joints begin to vibrate, and it becomes difficult to swallow. At 163 decibels, glass breaks. At 190 decibels, eardrums begin to rupture. At 195 decibels, sound waves act like shock waves. At 200, a human could be killed by the shockwave. At 212, you would experience a sonic boom from a jet.

Canary unleased a concentrated scream that was powerful, intense, and severe.

The alien creatures below all stopped instantly and grasped their ears. In only a few moments they began to fall to the ground, their large forms unmoving.

Canary slowly stood up from her crouch and walked between them. Kneeling down next to one she made a face at the sight.

“It’s their brain.”

Canary looked up and watched as Captain Comet descended down from above. He landed a few feet from her and walked over to one of the creatures.

“The high frequency and decibel sound is causing their inner ear to vibrate and cause them pain. Further, the sound is reverberating inside their cranium and breaking down their very brain tissue.”

By the look on Dinah’s face, she didn’t quite understand.

“Basically, imagine the Flash taking your head in his hands and shaking it at Superspeed. Imagine what would happen to your brain…”

Recognition came upon her face.

“Ewww.”

“Yes… that’s basically what this sound is doing. This is good news. We should be able to create a weapon, mass produce it, and give it to people of earth fight back.”

The six creatures on the ground began to dissolve into pools of acid. Comet motioned for Canary to step away, as to avoid the acidic blood.

”Batman, we had success. Canary used a concentrated scream at 32,000hz and 192 decibels on six of the creatures. The result was a quick death. We need to design a weapon quickly and find a way to mass produce them.”

That was the tricky part; mass producing these weapons. Comet had built Almerac a replicator in the past, and figured that might come in handy in this situation.

”People of earth… this is Captain Comet of the Justice League. The alien creatures that have invaded our planet are susceptible to high frequency sounds. If you have anything capable of producing high frequencies, such as a dog whistle, these can be used to keep the creatures at bay. The Justice League is working on a weapon capable of killing the creatures that will be disseminated as quickly as possible. Captain Comet out.”

Comet knew that none of the humans could produce something that contained both the frequency and decibels required, but he figured giving them this basic information could help some of them fend off the creatures for awhile.

As she unleashed her Canary Cry on the half dozen alien life forms, and watched with avid interest as the last one fell, Dinah considered the fact that the volume level on that attack was the close to the highest, if not the highest she'd ever unleashed. She was confident at the same time that with her increased power she could have gone alot higher if the situation ever required. The slight scratching sensation in her throat currently was just a side effect from lack of practice lately. On Apokolips, she had become such a deadly fighter with all that Kanto had taught her, she honestly couldn't remember the last time she'd even used the Canary Cry

Despite the fact that she was outmuscled by the alien's she was still getting into it and could have kept it up all day. Of course she would have hardly been able to move when she awoke the next morning had she done so, the aliens were that powerful, but damn her warriors spirit in situations like this anyway. It was a good thing indeed that Comet had been so close by on this day or the Black Canary's ego would have gotten the better of her and led her 6 feet under when it was all said and done.

Nevertheless, this pretty bird was still all fired up and with a single look of disgust at one of the fallen creatures while the Captain contacted Batman and then scores of innocent civilians with a warning message, the Black Canary's battlelust got the better of her, sending a powerful kick into one of the indisposed monsters, caving in what was left of it's skull for good measure.

"Where to now? Stay here and try to scream more of these monstrosities out of the sky or regroup with the rest of the league? I'm assuming whatever machinery Batman cooks up, my voice will come in handy with it as long as it holds out? I can keep this up for hours."

Orion suddenly felt a burst of pain in his ear from a screeching sound, somewhere in Metropolis. It was such an intense sound, that Orion KNEW he had heard it somewhere. Flying into the city, He decided to locate the sound...........

"SKREEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

He winced in pain. Yes he was indeed close. Which direction to go...............

Perhaps East?

Yes, that is where the sound seems the loudest. I think I shall go East, he thought to himself.

As he flew quickly, he noticed a man and woman in the streets. The woman was without a doubt, Dinah Lance and the man was Captain Comet (he could tell by the red suit). They both seemed fine. Captain Comet floating in midair, and Dinah Lance looking as beautiful than when he last met her on Apokolips. There was a line-up of dead ASAD's, near her.

Big surprise., he thought sarcastically. If I was close enough to those terrible screams, I bet I would die along with those b@st@##s.

Orion flew down to greet them. For some strange reason, as he looked at The Black Canary, he felt a twinge of nervousness. She had the same look in her eyes as his old wife......Bekka. Proud and pissed. He smiled as he spoke to them.

"Hello. Its nice to meet you both, again. I would ask if you needed help, but I see you are both talented enough to discover a weakness."

"If you have time......I wouldn't mind having a word with both of you after this is all done and over."

Leaping off of his Astro Harness, Orion landed on the ground from a 50 foot drop. He stared at the attractive Black Canary, and waited for a response.

Gotham City

”I have been monitoring your progress Batman. The Bat signal was a good strategy… I will get in contact with Black Canary now and test your theory. If this works, we’ll need to come up with a quick design for a weapon and find a place to manufacture them… Does Wayne Enterprises have a facility capable?”

The sudden revelation brought about a new feeling of hope for the Dark Knight. His eyes looked upon his young prodigies and members of the Gotham Knights who had quickly caught up with the current flow and followed suit in their actions to take down the aliens. Battle worn, tattered and pushed nearly to their brink, the fighters on the field still stood prepared to stop any opposing force that threatened to take this city.

Turning his head slightly he looked in the direction of Wayne Enterprises and gazed at the smoldering wreck. Unlike the rest of its neighboring buildings it was not yet engulfed in flames, nor had it been reduced to a pile of rubble. However based on the information that Bruce received from Commissioner Gordon the entire building had been overrun by aliens who unfortunately tore through the place. Wayne Enterprise would not be able to push anything into mass production, not until an entire clean up crew fixed the place.

Negative Comet.

The Dark Knight's began, his mental thoughts already being relayed to one of the League's leaders. Physically he stepped forward, off the ledge of the building a grim look on his face as he spread out his arms and held out his cape allowing an upward draft of air to control his descent. He would return to the battle field, return to the aid of his comrades and return to fighting to give Gotham a chance to see tomorrow.

The bottom of his boot connected with the forehead of an alien who went down quite easily considering it was already weakened.

Wayne Enterprise currently is not in the capacity to put anything into mass production. Perhaps you and J'onn could create a device in the tower-

His thoughts were cut off as he remembered that the Martian Manhunter was most likely elsewhere due to his recent crusade throughout the universe. He was probably already dealing with these aliens somewhere else on a distant planet. Brandishing his electric knuckles he sent his fist straight into the face of an alien. A sickening crack echoed throughout his ears and he felt the knuckles crumble off his hands and fall to the floor. Finding his best weapon now completely useless, he followed through with his attack, ramming his elbows into the alien's chest to send it stumbling backwards.

Bruce considered the possibilities here, however everything eventually led up to one option. He would have to abandon his current position to begin the production of the devices that would exploit the weaknesses of these creatures. Although he was not in favor of the idea, the Dark Knight understood that his responsibilities were usually on a grander scale than he usually intended. Even though he wanted to primarily focus on Gotham, ultimately if he did nothing they would suffer the same fate as the rest of the world.

I will need to return to the Tower to begin manufacturing the devices.

Batman finally relayed, from his hand he released a grapple line the ensnared a herd of aliens together. Tugging on it, he made sure they were secure before releasing an electric current into the cable. He moved his hand prepared to teleport himself to the Justice League headquarters when suddenly he stopped. A certain realization daunted upon him. Despite the fact that he was a rather good scientist in his own right, he recognized that he would not be able to manufacture the needed devices in a sufficient amount of time. Heavy hitters and those of vast brilliance were already giving their all to fight off armies of these things all around the world and around the universe. Batman knew he would not be able to pry them away from their current responsibilities.

”Batman, we had success. Canary used a concentrated scream at 32,000hz and 192 decibels on six of the creatures. The result was a quick death. We need to design a weapon quickly and find a way to mass produce them.”

Comet's thoughts echoed throughout his head again and the Dark Knight frowned, finding himself pushing his thoughts faster as he stood completely immobile searching his mind for possible candidates to aid him in the production of the device. There was a sense of urgency here and although anybody would be a viable candidate, the absolute choice would have to be a significant one. Either wise all was lost. Probably not completely, but time was not meant to be wasted.

FWOoOoOMMM!

His attention was averted and he turned to gaze a blinding beam of energy release into the sky. Following the charge of energy down he spotted Anarky and for a moment he forgot the war at hand and remembered the disdain he held for the self proclaimed vigilante. His eyes narrowed and as he watched the young man twirl the weapon in his hand and aim it at another wave of aliens he realized something.

He has the tools to help...

There was a moments hesitation, but every personal qualm he had, he let go and willed his body to rush over to Anarky's side.

Correction, Anarky and I are returning to base to work on the device.

With that said he latched his arm on the man's shoulder, depressed a button on his utility belt and in a flash of light disappeared from Gotham Square.

The Dark Knight, located about 2 hours away in Gotham City, finally paused to respond to Captain Comet.

"Negative Comet."

"Wayne Enterprise currently is not in the capacity to put anything into mass production. Perhaps you and J'onn could create a device in the tower-"

Comet was just about to remind Batman of the Manhunter’s whereabouts when he picked up Batman’s own thoughts determining the same.

"I will need to return to the Tower to begin manufacturing the devices."

Comet considered the feat of making these weapons in the Watchtower. The base wasn’t designed as a production facility. He’d have to do something ‘creative’ in order to speed things up. Maybe they could contact the U.S. Government, or the United Nations, to see what they had available.

”I’ll be there shortly Batman.”

The Black Canary finished taking out four more creatures, and then turned to Comet.

”Where to now? Stay here and try to scream more of these monstrosities out of the sky or regroup with the rest of the league? I'm assuming whatever machinery Batman cooks up, my voice will come in handy with it as long as it holds out? I can keep this up for hours."

Comet already knew the answer to the question as soon as Dinah had started to ask it.

”The weapon production is our top priority right now. Giving earth a fighting chance, that’s what we’ll be doing. If we just focus on fighting, we’re only going to slow the inevitable, not change it.”

*Swooosh*

Comet sent forth a telekinetic wave at two approaching aliens. Two invisible walls crushed the aliens together, smashing them into virtual pancake. A second psychic wave burst the remaining ‘flesh’ into a ball of flame.

”I need to go to the Watchtower to make this weapon and find out the best way to produce it. We won’t really need your help for that, so stay here and help where you can. You’re one of the best weapons we have right now.”

Sensing an approaching life-form, Comet turned to the western sky. Flying down was a man Comet hadn’t seen in a few years, Orion of New Genesis.

"Hello. It’s nice to meet you both, again. I would ask if you needed help, but I see you are both talented enough to discover a weakness."

"If you have time......I wouldn't mind having a word with both of you after this is all done and over."

”We’ve only recently discovered the weakness; a high frequency sound mixed with about 190 decibels. It will kill the creatures and keep them that way.”

"Correction, Anarky and I are returning to base to work on the device."

Batman’s telepathic voice filled Comet’s mind.

Anarky… interesting. I would have never though Bruce would use someone he used to do battle with. They have very different philosophies. But, they say ‘Desperate times call for desperate measures’.

Turning his attention back to Orion,

”I’m sorry Orion, but I don’t have time to chat. I am heading to the Watchtower to work on this weakness. I am sure Black Canary will be able to help you with whatever you need. If you need to speak with me however, just send me a telepathic message, or contact me with you JLA communicator.”

Comet nodded, and disappeared in a bright flash.

Thousands of miles above the earth in the JLA Watchtower…

”What have you two come up with?”

Comet said as he walked into the main engineering lab. Batman and Anarky were both at the main engineering computer console looking up and discussing weapon alternatives.

Comet looked over the designs. They were simple, lightweight, and seemed easy to use. However there was one thing Comet figured the weapon needed, since it would be mass produced and given to nearly everyone on earth.

“These weapons, they are capable of harming humans, even killing them. We need to put in a safety device that prevents them from firing at any target besides these creatures. It should be fairly simple to add in a DNA scan into the barrel…. Another possibility would be to add in a small self-destruct device that we could manually detonate… just something that would destroy the firing pin, making the weapons useless.”

Comet continued to look over the design, ensuring that they didn’t miss anything else.

"I'm one of the best weapons the league has PERIOD. Point taken anyway. I'll stay here and wipe the sdtreets with the remaining aliens still stupid enough to be in Metropolis, contact me as soon as you have the weapons ready. The quicker we end this, the better. For them.

Dinah added when Orion showed up, being addressed by Comet before the latter disappeared. A trickle of sweat was sliding down Dinah's forehead and into her eyes but she refused to even dignify it by wiping it out. It could be said that there was still more Siren in her than Canary, but not in a bad way. She's always been a proud individual, so much more after the way Darkseid, Kanto, and experiences she endured on Apokolips hardened her heart. The evil and darkness they infused her with are gone, but she stands a bolder, prouder warrior now than she ever had before, which has heightened her refusal to show public signs of weakness.

She isn't completely made out of stone however and in her eyes, Orion couldn't have arrived at a better time. There were things she has wanted to discuss with him ever since he helped free her from Apokolips. Time just hasn't allowed it thus far, it still isn't but when this adventure is over, life experiences need to be exchanged, if luck allows for it.

"I'll agree with you, we've got things we need to discuss, you and I. And we will, just as soon as I finish taking out the trash from the streets of Metropolis."

The Black Canary continued, lifting off the ground and taking a giant leap for mankind. Into the skys as she grabbed an aerial view to see approximately how many monsters are left.

"In the mean time, if you want to come along and spill your guts about whatever brought you here, I'm listening. I'll just do my talking for later. You do have something to protect your ears, right?"

Reaching out and grabbing a couple of incoming aliens just begging to be turned into pancakes and ramming their heads together after she set her feet on concrete again, throwing hard kicks into a few more, she threw Orion a quick glance to make sure he was covered and then amped up and let it fly once again. A smile from sheer pleasure crept across her lips as she watched the miscreants feel the burn of each and overy one of the 190 decibels they swallowed.

Gazing at the great protecter of the planet, Captain Comet, Orion listened intently on what he had to say with respect.

”I’m sorry Orion, but I don’t have time to chat. I am heading to the Watchtower to work on this weakness. I am sure Black Canary will be able to help you with whatever you need. If you need to speak with me however, just send me a telepathic message, or contact me with you JLA communicator.”

Orion simply nodded and slightly bowed, as he picked up a nearby car, and flung it at the nearest group of ASAD's that were behind him. He turned around and smiled.

"Correct. It seems that you don't. I won't hold you up. You have innocent lives to save, and I just realized that you do, in fact communicate with others, telepathically. Tell Batman, I said 'hello'."

As he watched the great Captain Comet fly away, he turned to the blonde-bombshell known as Dinah Lance (aka The Black Canary). Only THIS Canary didn't quite have the voice of a peaceful bird. Her sound waves were off the charts! Blasting at around 200 decibals, from the amplitude of the sound-waves.

He looked at the pretty earthling, and smiled at her amazing talent. She turned and spoke to him as he directed his attention to her.

"I'll agree with you, we've got things we need to discuss, you and I. And we will, just as soon as I finish taking out the trash from the streets of Metropolis."

"In the mean time, if you want to come along and spill your guts about whatever brought you here, I'm listening. I'll just do my talking for later. You do have something to protect your ears, right?"

"How have you been?

"I have only been here for around 7 hours, and it seems that the world is tearing itself apart. I feel lucky to come here in time, and help you all out in destroying this monstrosity. But I can imagine that this menace isn't just planetary. If there are as many of them as I think there is, wherever there is life in this Galaxy, there will be ASAD's. I slightly worry about my planet. But the New Gods are a strong people. They will fight through the torment. If I am lucky enough, I won't come back to find a mass of dead New Gods at my feet. For the time being, I will help all of you out, until Comet and Batman construct a weakness for the people of Earth."

He awaited The Black Canary's response.........
